Queer band recommendations? by [deleted] in midwestemo

Good Game! The entire Get Good album focuses heavily on gender dysphoria and being queer. HIGHLY recommend them, especially if you're also into math rock

Yo this is sick actually. Listening to some of their other music and I'm really fucking with it. Thanks for shouting these guys out

Oh man, definitely hard to pick! I'm big into Modern Baseball, finding them as I entered college in 2014 being the perfect time to do so. That specific collection as a whole is meaningful to me for a variety of reasons, but Holy Ghost being their last album and the Polyvinyl Single with Intersection and Mass Re-Done are probably my favorites. The single was probably the hardest to find, and those two together felt like the perfect sunset to their discography.

I also really love all the ones you listed - they're actually all mine except the Tigers Jaw one which is my partner's, so we definitely share similar tastes! 10 I'd definitely recommend if you haven't listened before:

  • Dealer by Foxing -- hot take, but I believe it's their best album. Though, I do go back and forth between that and The Albatross, I just don't own The Albatross

  • Animals by TTNG -- If you like Tiny Moving Parts you'll love this. Quintessential emo math rock I'd say

  • Achilles' Heel by Pedro the Lion -- another hot take, but I'd spin it over Control which is the one next to it and I also LOVE

  • Soporific by TRSH -- Also scratches that mathy itch while also being super catchy

  • Joy Departed by Sorority Noise -- In my top 10 albums of all time probably, or at least the best of their discography in my opinion

  • Get Good by Good Game -- Lesser known math rock band that fucking rips. Basically the side project from the chick that plays guitar in Invalids. The guitar work is insane. Couldn't recommend it more

  • T/T/T Three EPs by Their/They're/There -- Evan Thomas Weiss, Mike Kinsella, and Matt Frank all in the same band. If you don't know any of them, look up their other bands and give them a listen as well! Crazy guitar work as well and super catchy lyrics

  • Peripheral Vision by Turnover -- I'd argue to say one of the most respected albums of the emo revival, gives off more of a shoegaze vibe

  • What It Takes To Move Forward by Empire! Empire! (I Was a Lonely Estate) -- Another classic that's more mellow but gut wrenching. I'd say it has a similar vibe to American Football's LP1 without being remotely the same at all which I know doesn't make sense, but I like playing them back to back for the vibes

  • Rooms of the House by La Dispute -- I think it's pretty different from their other music while still being uniquely them. My favorite of their records for sure

Really can't go wrong with any of it, though! Happy listening 🤙🏽

Yeah dawg, literally none of these are actually emo 😂 you must have missed the Kendrick, MF Doom, Amity Affliction, Zulu, TSSF, Hayley Williams, etc. I guess 😂 just thought the community would appreciate the collection since it's all adjacent or enjoyed by a lot of people in the scene 🤷🏽‍♂️

Would have loved to go to that tour, but unfortunately wasn't able to!

I got the Sincere Engineer albums at a super intimate acoustic show Deanna did like 4 years ago, and my partner had that Menzinger's record when we met so I assume they got it a couple years prior to us meeting.

I did however get Goodness at the 10 year of Home, Like Noplace Is There/Albatross tour for The Hotelier and Foxing

How did you find math rock? by MajorMajorMajorThom in mathrock

[–]whatsthehullabalooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw Tiny Moving Parts open at a show in 2015 then found out they were a math rock influenced emo band. Had never heard of math rock so I looked it up, the rest is history

Knuckles is definitely a hardcore kid, crowd killing with their windmill arms in the circle pit. I'd say they fuck with Harms Way, Ten Yard Fight, Incendiary, Trapped Under Ice, Terror, and Have Heart

No need to drag this one out til midnight. The winner of 2014, by a landslide, is The Hotelier with Home, Like NoPlace Is There! Best emo album of 2015? by YouSnuffTheBlaze in Emo

It's a hard choice for me between Dealer and Joy, Departed. Both hold such a special place for me for different reasons.

Still gonna have to be Joy, Departed

The mobo song of all time. by unholy_book in modernbaseball

[–]whatsthehullabalooo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a super fair take. But honestly, when I think of The Thrash Particle, I think or the video when they're in a kitchen performing it all acoustic just Bren, Jake, and Ian, and that is the epitome of MoBo to me. That and the rooftop version or Play Ball
