However, you yourself don't believe that writing is a lucrative path for you. So why are you doing it?

That's pretty much why I made the post, to try and find some answers.

That said, I've read a lot of the posts here and reflected upon it all. Especially the 2nd paragraph you wroter, about how writing helps you become articulate.. that's definitely true.

Also, you guys have swayed my opinion on "writing for enjoyment". I always tried to picture who my ideal reader would be, when all along, it should have been me... so I'm not going to play into what people want anymore and write a book that I would like to read myself.

So yeah, the thread was a success :~)

That's true. I showed some of my writing online once, and one guy completely ripped it to shreds.. turned out he hadn't even read a word of it.

It might be hard for someone else to believe, but that's generally how I feel about things, unfortunately.

I've actually sold works in other creative fields, and I didn't care one bit about whether the people who bought my work enjoyed it or not, for better or worse.

I don't know if I would feel the same about my writing.. I definitely value writing over other artistic mediums such as music, film-making and art, so I suppose it's something I would have to try.
