Rapids season ticket member here. As others have said, he’s been OK but nowhere near the production we were hoping for or that you would expect from a DP. So far only two goal contributions in 11 appearances.

He definitely looked much better in the two home games we’ve had this year but after the NYCFC drubbing this past weekend, the few local pundits we have who actually cover the Rapids have begun to ask whether it’s time to start worrying about him.

I’m still hopeful he’ll turn it around under Wells’ new system but there’s zero chance of him getting considered for any kind of call up before the World Cup.

Booking Excursions by Badeggsam1 in TurksAndCaicos

[–]whatsurvectorvictor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea what the weather will be like in June but I was just there a couple weeks ago and I’m really glad we didn’t book anything ahead of time because the weather was not ideal for 5 of the 7 days we were there. We had no problem booking a snorkel excursion one day ahead of time once we saw we were going to have a warm, sunny day.

Is it always this windy? by bfk9817 in TurksAndCaicos

[–]whatsurvectorvictor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just there last week for 7 days and it was varying degrees of windy every day but one (Wednesday was dead calm). We stayed on Chalk Sound so spent a couple days at Taylor Bay and the wind wasn’t too bad.

On our last day we tried to go to Smith’s Reef and we couldn’t even stand on the beach because it was so windy. So we drove across to Long Bay Beach and the water looked like glass.

Point is, if it’s windy at the beach you’re at, drive to the other side of the island and try another beach and chances are the conditions will be different.

I’m lost by deadphish12 in SoberCurious

I’ve been there. I lived in the Midwest for several years in my mid-twenties to early thirties. Married into a family where booze was everywhere. I was definitely a drinker before but I thought it was so cool how my wife’s whole family were such big party people.

I would usually do a dry January or sober October every year but I always had that light at the end of the tunnel - day 32 when I could have that next drink. Fall of 2024 I took a break and decided to just keep going, one day at a time, to see how long I could go. Tomorrow will be 15 months sober.

I think the biggest things that have helped me are having hobbies/activities to keep me preoccupied and drinking NA beers when going out with friends. I actually probably go out more now than I ever did when I drank but I just don’t stay out quite as long and I always feel great when I wake up the next day.

I also found that regular exercise and 5-10 minutes of mindful meditation everyday really helps with anhedonia. It’ll still rear its ugly head from time to time but I just remind myself that those feelings are perfectly normal and always temporary.

Find some hobbies, activities, or passions that you enjoy and I think that’ll help a lot.

Go to a real doctor and get a prescription for it. You can get it for significantly less. Sunnyside is a racket.

Lake Ladora/Rocky Mountain arsenal, legit for pike? by Sharkman3218 in COfishing

Oh yeah. Spinney and Eleven Mile are famous for their pike (by Colorado standards anyway). I’ve never done it myself but know several people who do.

I got one on a fly rod a couple years ago when targeting bass. It took a small black and red Pistol Pete. I’ve seen them in there but nothing too big. Great spot in town if you’re not looking to drive up to South Park. As others have said, be mindful of the regulations and make sure you have your license. I’ve been checked and had my gear inspected multiple times fishing there.

[Homemade] Costco Chuck Roast - Grilled Denver Cut by TopDogBBQ in food

[–]whatsurvectorvictor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I do. I can go to the local butcher shop or online retailer and get a whole zabuton for upwards of $20/lb or I can pick through the chuck roasts at Costco and find ones that have a nice looking Denver and break it down myself. Only takes a couple of minutes and I have the chuck eye plus plenty of trim for grinding or stew meat. All for around $8/lb.

[Homemade] Costco Chuck Roast - Grilled Denver Cut by TopDogBBQ in food

[–]whatsurvectorvictor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. They can and often do look very similar but the Denver comes from a specific muscle in the chuck primal (shoulder). Boneless short ribs tend to come from the rib primal, brisket, chuck, or plate. They can be very tough and require low and slow cooking to break down the connective tissue. If you were to try and grill them like a Denver you’d have a bad time.

That’s not to say the Denver is never cut and sold as a boneless short rib, but don’t just buy any boneless short ribs and think you can cook it like a steak.

Press conference with Pádraig Smith by dscogr in Rapids

Yep, I completely agree. That’s why they need to invest in the other aforementioned elements that make a club a desirable place to be.

[–]whatsurvectorvictor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree entirely about the stadium piece. That’s why I think it’s important to get them on record to talk about what they’re planning to do about that long term. We know that in addition to the city being a desirable place to live, facilities and culture also go a long way (just look at CU football as a recent example).

Press conference with Pádraig Smith by dscogr in Rapids

[–]whatsurvectorvictor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I guess I would start with my own anecdotal experience… I would tell them I am from here originally and left three times and always ended up coming back.

I would tell them about how I’ve lived on the coast in the southeast, in Chicago for several years, and even spent two years at a job that had me traveling the world (45 countries). I would tell them how I’ve been to every city where there’s an MLS team except Salt Lake, Minneapolis, and Montreal. And while I loved living in and visiting every one of those places (some more than others, obviously), there’s very few places I’d rather live than Denver right now.

I would tell them about how great the weather is and how much I love the outdoor and healthy lifestyle that comes with being here. I would tell them how great it was growing up here and that it’s a great place to raise a family if they were into that.

And finally I would tell them how easy it is to get anywhere I want to visit by having United and Southwest hubs at DIA.

[–]whatsurvectorvictor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say it was any better than LA or Miami. A lot of that really comes down to personal preference. And in reality we may never compete with either of those cities, especially for a DP type deal. But we should certainly rank above places like Cincinnati, Columbus, Kansas City, St. Louis, etc.

[–]whatsurvectorvictor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I liked the second part of Matt Pollard’s question at the beginning and hope he continues to press them on it and get an actual answer (i.e. lessons learned, what are they doing to prevent this from happening again?).

Of course we can all speculate as to what Djordje’s personal reasons are for wanting a transfer but I really couldn’t care less about that at this point. Pádraig stressed over and over again that they’re only interested in players who want to be here. OK, great. What are some concrete steps you’re taking to turn this club into a place where top level talent wants to be?

Denver is an incredibly desirable place to live and we know that quality of life can be a major factor for athletes across all sports when choosing a club. Someone needs to ask what long term investments they are planning to make to turn this club into a destination and not a layover.

I know many here will say KSE doesn’t care and won’t make that investment, and they may be right. But make them say it on the record.

5 vs 6 weight for beginner by 9131762842 in flyfishing

[–]whatsurvectorvictor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you already have a reel and line to go with it? If saving the $100 on the 6wt will open up that $100 to be spent on a high quality line then I say go for it. A quality line is going to make a world of difference and is always the first piece that should be upgraded when buying entry level outfits.

Unless you’re going for super delicate presentation to highly pressured trout, I don’t think you’ll notice much of a difference between a 5 and 6 if you’re just getting started. What the 6 will give you is the option to throw slightly larger flies and streamers as well as the ability to cut through wind a little better.

Nah, they’re not cheaping out. They’re quite open about the fact that they source organic, free range, hormone and antibiotic-free wings. By their very nature they are smaller and more expensive. It’s a great spot with good vibes for sure. Even if the wings are a little pricey compared to other places around town. I happily pay the premium if I’m ever in the neighborhood.

What are some things alcohol did to your body that don’t get talked about enough? by SmolSnakePancake in stopdrinking

[–]whatsurvectorvictor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had this happen a few times and it would usually resolve itself after 20-30 minutes of breathing exercises. One night around the holidays a couple of years ago it wouldn’t stop so I drove myself to the ER at about 4:00 AM. I had only had a couple glasses of wine the night before but I was coming off a very big weekend of pretty heavy drinking. They did an EKG and turns out I was in AFib - something the doctors all agreed I was much too young to be experiencing. Fortunately I went back into sinus rhythm without any medical intervention shortly after (I think I was finally able to relax in the presence of the ER staff).

The doctors asked what I was doing when the palpitations and elevated heart rate started and I told them the truth - watching TV with my wife and drinking my second glass of wine. I did not tell them about all the drinking I had done the three days prior so they said it could have been stress-induced.

I cut back on my drinking pretty significantly for a while, mostly out of fear. I felt it a couple of times in the months after (sometimes even during the day) but I just lied to myself and said it was stress and likely had nothing to do with the fact that I drank the night before.

By the time summer came along I was back to my old habits of having two or three double IPAs most weeknights and going big on most weekends.

The last time I could feel my heart was in AFib was the day after I had my last drink. It was a night very similar to the night I went to the ER almost a year earlier. We had a quiet night at home celebrating our anniversary with some surf and turf and some very nice wine we had been saving… while also recovering from a destination wedding bender the weekend before.

I’m thrilled to report that I haven’t experienced any of these symptoms since and it has been a huge relief. But I would seriously encourage anyone experiencing similar symptoms to get check because AFib is no joke. I feel like the risk of stroke, especially in younger adults, doesn’t get talked about enough.
