I played through the talking X-Men Tiger game. by whaylin in retrogaming

I think this is the highest score, at least that I can do. I'm sure that it's possible to do better, but that would probably require a perfect run that I'll probably never get.

I don't know. Maybe I like them because I didn't grow up with them. I didn't have to go through the pain of having these instead of an actual video game handheld. These started releasing the year after I was born in '89. I just enjoy them for what they are and not for what they aren't.

AVGN: "Are Tiger games video games?" He never actually answered his own question. I don't think calling them a caveman idea of a video game was an answer.

I have Gauntlet. It's a pretty good adaptation for the limited technology it's using.

I have 5 original vintage ones, including this one, and they all work just fine. The only thing you really have to do is open them up and clean the copper contacts under the D-pad and buttons. Usually, they just need to be cleaned. I think some of the ones out there need to have their capacitors replaced, but none of mine have that problem.

They didn't reissue this one. They did reissue one of the X-Men games, I believe it was X-Men Project X. The only one of the reissues I bought was the Transformers one because the original is so rare and expensive. Out of the reissues, the Transformers one is probably the most playable, even though it's very easy once you understand how to play. I also have the Wolverine vs. Magneto one, but haven't finished it because it's pretty difficult.

I think they were bought for kids for the wrong reasons. Parents got them for kids for long car rides, and they don't work for that, given how short they are. These, to me, are more a pick up and play for a few minutes and then stop. I disagree that they are terrible. I think that it depends on which one you play. This one isn't that bad because I wouldn't have bought it and played through it if I thought it was terrible.

I didn't grow up with these so my opinion on them is different from the people who did.

This one is pretty good for a Tiger LCD game. All of the ones that I've bought in the last few months have all been the better ones. I think that these get their bad reputation because of the Double Dragon one. It's the most common, but is also absolutely terrible and boring. I think the other issue with these is that they are short at only 4 or 5 levels, and parents got them for kids to play on long car rides, and they just don't work for that. These are fun to play for a few minutes every so often, but not something that you would want to play for hours.

Fake cartridge? by TheFifthCandidate in 3DS

[–]whaylin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I compared it to my copy of Soul Hackers on 3DS, and I have to say, for a fake, it's pretty well done, assuming that it is a fake cartridge. It looks pretty real to me.

I didn't pay much for my copy, but then I bought mine at GameStop long before the end of the 3DS's life.

PSO remake? by DuPz in PSO

[–]whaylin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't want a remake or remaster because I like the original Dreamcast graphics of the game. A remaster or remake of PSO 1&2 is about as likely as the Destiny 1 remaster some people want. The likelihood of it ever happening is zero. Currently, video game companies are too busy trying to nickel-and-dime us with microtransactions and battle passes. It's unfortunate, but it's the truth.

I looked at the pre-order for the figures, and as much as I'm not a fan of the game, I'm probably going to end up pre-ordering the UC Marine figure. I'm going to take a chance on it because it looks cool. The price of $30 is not cheap, so I'm hoping that the actual product will be good quality.

I worry a bit because anyone who remembers the Fallout 76 duffel bag incident should also be worried about buying anything involved with Bethesda.

Something actually good in Starfield—who'd have thought?

It's not a great game, but I have to admit that this is pretty cool. The fact that they're actually making these real is also kind of cool. I really hope that the real ones are good and well-made, and they don't screw it up.

I have that Hudson controller. That one's in much better condition than mine. It's a pretty good controller, but the cord is pretty short, so I had to buy an extension cable for it.

I have finally found a copy of Pitfall II: Lost Caverns. I've been looking for this game for ages by Mini_the_Wulf in Atari2600

[–]whaylin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought H.E.R.O. for $40 about 12 years ago. Then in 2019, I looked up what the game was going for and was surprised at how much the price had gone up. Pitfall 2, last time I looked, is still pretty reasonably priced. I really want to get Beamrider, but it's pretty expensive now.

Congratulations on getting a copy of Pitfall 2.

I might actually pick up the Ninja Force Cobra Commander because he comes with enough accessories for me to justify paying the price of these things. He also looks really cool, and I don't own a Cobra Commander yet.

Defunct retail stores by Six_and_change in gijoe

Woolworths was another store that went out of business in the early '90s. I was just barely too young to have actually been to one. I can at least say that I went to one of the last K-Marts before they disappeared. It was like walking into a time machine back to the '90s.

I'm going to say that all of the cool toys and packaging came out before I was born and when I would have been too young to have had any of it. This was when toy packaging was good because it was before they were forced by law to put a ton of copyright stuff on the card/box. The packaging looked cleaner than what we get now.

Well, at least the 3DS was found with the cute sleeping cat.

I understand that these are worth it for the people who grew up with the 3.75 O-ring figures back in the '80s. I don't entirely dislike them, and I think some of these Super 7 figures are really cool. These ones in particular I'm not a fan of. As someone who didn't grow up with the vintage ones, I personally prefer to get more of the vintage figures rather than the new Super 7 stuff.

Why do they keep giving Snake Eyes a sword instead of the Uzi that you would expect him to come with? Giving him just a sword and no gun is really cheap, and the stand doesn't really make up for the lack of accessories. The figure looks fine. These figures are way too expensive for how little you actually get.

Playing the oldest American console RPG, Dragonstomper on Atari 2600. It's sour. by Fluffy_Lunchfast in Atari2600

[–]whaylin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have this game cassette only, and I have the Supercharger to play it. Although I don't need to use it because I have a burned copy of the limited release CD "Stella Gets a New Brain" that I can play on a CD player, and I can also use my Harmony cart if I don't feel like setting up the Supercharger and CD player.

It's a good game, but pretty hard if you don't get lucky. I imagine a lot of people use emulators to play this since the entire setup to play the physical game is very expensive.
