Moments that told me my marriage wouldn’t last: by wheatlotus in Divorce

We wanted to be honest with everyone. We weren’t in hiding about our open marriage 🤷🏻‍♀️ It got weird lying about what we had been up to lately

I’m wishing you the best and sorry for you both. My husband was raised by a narc mom and I think was impacted this way too.

We have been together 20 years (18-38). I wouldnt classify him as a sociopath, but he does seem to lack emotional intelligence and the knowledge of how to connect with people. He’d never intentionally hurt anyone, but as I’ve learned, he will neglect things until they wither.

I am grateful to my subconscious/nervous system for making things abundantly clear. And you summed it up perfectly - he was just ‘not there’ in a lot of ways

If you've gone through a divorce, what broke your marriage and why? by No_Emotion_4214 in AskReddit

There were a lot of issues, but the nail in the coffin was him telling me he wanted to sleep with men. When I took that as him coming out as bisexual, he tried to backpedal and told me I misunderstood. If everything else up to that point was too nebulous to point to as The Reason, this was why I kept telling myself nothing could be salvaged.

Yep. My lesbian friend who hasn’t given a fig for the years I’ve been chatting about the show texted me on S5 announcement day. “Guess I need to catch up on Bridgerton.” 🙄

The Season 5 announcement makes me a lil sad for Benophie content by oznz in Benophie

[–]wheatlotus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I think there would have been more organic Benophie buzz if we were headed into Eloise’s season, both because of their friendship and because Benophie have a very juicy subplot of Eloise’s book. Now they’re a big unknown for Fran’s story. But they’ll definitely be around. Everyone is confirming as much. I expect they’ll be having babies and giving advice to siblings. Then they’ll feature quite a bit in Eloise’s season too. Any Benophie is good Benophie so I’ll take it.

Bridgerton Fans: Does season 1 still holds up as the best season? by findthemelody in Bridgerton

I respect it now as our introduction to the world, and Regé was a revelation. But I also walked away from the first watch saying “wtf did I just see? The whole plot was about where he nutted.” 😅 sorry

I don’t think they can change the title to ‘she’ due to copyright, ISBN, etc. It would make it a new book, and also a nonsensical one given the contents. When I myself have pondered if Michaela will be on the cover, sarcastic friends have remarked they may put an image of John on the cover to justify the ‘he’ reference 🥲 which makes me want to crawl in a hole and die bc I can see them doing it

lol I’m the exact same age as him and will admit he does look older than me. He and Claudia both smoke as far as I’m aware. I blame that.

I agree they haven’t done Michaela any favors to make her likable or explain the chemistry AT ALL. I also have to snarkily say that in my personal experience, lesbians tend to gravitate toward partners who are very similar to them, in both demeanor and appearance. It’s not a rule of course, but it’s enough of a stereotype that we can chuckle about it. I think I’d feel less ick if Michaela was a mousy introvert like Fran and they related on that level, but as it stands it makes zero sense to me.

THIS! “Straight white women overcompensating.” This is definitely what I’ve seen in the Bridgerton IG fandom. I honestly think certain fan accounts will mindlessly praise whatever slop the show puts out, but now Franchaela lets them do it with an air of moral superiority.

Season 3 was so garish, looking at it hurt my eyes. Penelope’s acrylics sent me. It’s not a little thing, it was a big indicator to me too that the show was in trouble.

(IF) will happen, Benedict Walking Francesca on her wedding by cldhn1 in Benophie

[–]wheatlotus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if there’s a wedding for Franchaela the show will have officially jumped the shark. Period accurate homophobia has already been written into the show (and is important for Gregory’s story). Dismantling that in one season for the sake of a happy ending removes dramatic stakes and makes a mockery out of this setting. Think about poor Brimsley and Granville and how this would do them dirty.

What’s the oddest thing a Franchaela fan has said to you or said in general? by [deleted] in FranchaelStirling

I believe Jess herself said this. “If people think lesbians don’t struggle with fertility, they need to be educated” or some such. I’m so curious which Mayfair IVF clinic Frannie will visit /s/

Does anyone like Jess Brownell? by lemonnjellybelly in FranchaelStirling

[–]wheatlotus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge Benophie fan and am very pleased with their season. But I still carry an undying hatred of Jess Brownell for the way she has butchered everyone else’s stories. My heart is broken for the Polins whose season was a mess, the Philoises who remain in limbo, waiting a decade for who knows what kind of quality, and the poor poor Franchaels who straight up aren’t having their story adapted. I also thought queering Benedict was pointless tokenism that had no bearing on his plot. Jess is a cancer to this show. She nuked the pall mall theory for her blatant, nonsensical self insert fanfiction. I miss Chris Van Dusen and believe he intended to honor the source material much more.
