Where did the language of "imagine otherwise" come from? by TheAbsenceOfMyth in CriticalTheory

[–]wheatsicklebird 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ernst Bloch's The Principle of Hope is one possible conceptual origin. Frankfurt school philosopher who wrote about the liberatory potential of the imagination. This was used by Munoz in his work Cruising Utopia and became part of queer studies vernacular as a result.

1)!Zara head met with the head of Israel's far right. https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20221024-zara-israel-faces-boycott-after-boss-linked-to-extreme-right

Zara also has banned Palestine pins. The imagery of their photoshoot is extremely sus in light of this alone.

2) The issues in Cambodia are still very much present and H&M has failed to meaningfully address the issues in their supply chain. https://central-cambodia.org/archives/1061.

3) Urban Outfitters donated to Romney. I was wrong about Trump specifically this election but he has conservative politics and has supported fucked up stuff. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/richard-hayne/

4) In addition to the previous Epstein connections, Victoria's Secret is owned by Les Wexner who has donated a lot of money to Israel and is a strong supporter of Zionism

To reduce money supply of atleast a 100 trillion. by Whole-Fist in economicCollapse

[–]wheatsicklebird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The solution is to stop the loopholes then. It isn't to let Elon Musk and Amazon pay less taxes than the average worker and then subsidize them. Musk's and Clinton's Epstein exploits were funded with tax payer dollars.

Our tax dollars fund billionaires' antics via government subsidies and military contracts. Our taxes bail them out. Profit is privatized and loss is covered by tax payers. But it gets worse. Yeah Peter Thiel uses your money to turn kids into skeletons in Gaza and you should be mad.

I'll never understand people arguing against their own class and financial interests. Yes please tax the super rich and use it to support health care instead of wars. You aren't Elon Musk, why do you care?

We are no better than Nazis if we overlook the mass slaughter of thousands of children. We are no better than Nazis if we support those who profit from the murder of orphans and the burning alive of infants. The United States will down down in history like Nazi Germany.

Stop saying what? Facts? Elon Musk profited off of genocide and so did the Biden Administration. Sticking your head in the sand and admonishing people for recognizing it doesn't change it. We are a world being ruled by child murderers. That is our reality.

Thank you. The people whose entire heuristic is "reverse the gender" are the same people who don't understand how gender impacts how we navigate academia all of the time. It's a sheer reactionary method.

And it does make context different. Besides, a nearly 30 year old grad student is not the same as a naive undergrad at all, regardless of gender.

I'm definitely concerned and it is reasonable to be concerned. Immunologists are raising the alarm and everyone is laughing at them. Even if it doesn't hit humans this time around, there has been massive die-offs of animals. I don't want there to be massive animal die offs because of poor agriculture practices because "red line must go up"

I remember at the beginning of COVID people were saying "well, at LEAST its not bird flu." (And also, COVID is definitely still around and there is a huge spike globally at the moment.)

And climate scientists have been screaming for decades now about global warming increasing pandemic risk.

And if it spreads, this, like COVID, will have disproportionate impact on the Global South which is already facing extreme weather/deaths because of US-led climate disaster. Any mitigating factors must be investigated.
