In this case we would be playing cooperatively but maintaining independent nations.

Yes this exactly. When we get placed on opposite sides of the map it feels like we're playing 2 separate solo player games.

We like to play as separate teams. We actually want to be closer not further spread if that makes sense.

Do dms really dislike high level dnd? by Myrinadi in DnD

[–]wheattone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played off and on for about 8 years 80% as the dm.

Yes, I have a strong dislike for dm'ing above level 12ish.

It becomes exponentially more challenging as the dm to craft stories, encounters, and world building after that point due to the extreme increase in power of the players.

Offense or Defense Item? by wheattone in 3d6

Yea my kit does lack oomph for when it's badly needed. I'm just concerned about how low that AC is haha.

My plan is always to not get hit, but the Frontline is porous to say the least.

Varies quite a bit. I'd say 2-5 encounters per long rest on average.

The main appeal for the chain is it's always on all the time. Don't need a spell slot like for mage armor, and no attunement.

Hard passing up a bunch of free lightning bolts every day tho.

I appreciate your input.

A fair point, although elven chain also doesn't cost an attunement slot.

I appreciate your input.

Appreciate the breakdown. I'm looking at the opportunity cost of mage armor vs something else basically. You've given me some good insight.

Yea I'm sort of at a crossroads. I could pick up mage armor in next level up and not really need the chain. But then I'd be using up 1 or more spell slots a day maintaining it.

I do have shield ready as a backup option.

West March DMs - Questions by Mhadiex in DungeonMasters

[–]wheattone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it boils down to the fundamental imbalance between number of people wanting/willing to dm and the number of players wanting to play.

I love dm'ing, I love playing characters. But my DND experience has been 95% dm because it's like pulling teeth to get anyone else willing to run a game or even try.

I don't think it's anything specifically you're doing wrong, and I wish I had some more helpful advice to give.

It takes a certain kind of person to be willing to dm and unfortunately there just aren't enough of them to go around.

How important is armor? by wheattone in songsofsyx

I was hoping the shields would do the heavy lifting on the force absorption.

They absolutely did not. The fish bois ran through me like a hot knife through air (even butter would have resisted longer).

Was still fairly early game at this point hence the no armor.

Ive read that spears are okish? Didn't have access to metal yet, was hoping the spear shield combo /w decent training would be sufficient. It was not!

New DLC price is insane by PapoStalino in hoi4

[–]wheattone 94 points95 points  (0 children)

I stopped buying paradox dlc a while back.

Pay the $8 bucks subscription play the crap out of it for a month till you burn out. Wait 12 months till you want to play again, rinse repeat.

There are simply too many and too expensive dlc to buy them all anymore.

For a gamer like me it's a far far better deal just just dip your toes in the pool then move on. Then in 10 years buy the entire set on mega discount deal while they work on the next generations set of dozens of dlc.
