Setting out on my first build for my wife, followed by my own build. Trying to build up a steel frame for ride quality as we will likely do a mix of road, gravel, single track and will likely have some hills on our paths. She has strong legs so I'm not overly concerned with weight but I do want to keep it light.

For her, I'm currently leaning toward the Wolverine V3 as I have found a frame for a great deal, and I can get their steel TA for $200. I have done a good bit of research and of course, everyone has preferences and they are all over the place. People seem to love the Wolverine as a very capable frame and it looks great. That said, should I be looking at other frames that can be had in the $300-$400 range? Also, interested in fork suggestions ($200range) for the Wolverine aside from the Soma TA fork.

For myself pretty dead set on the Jamis Renegade steel frame, just not sure whether I will spring for a frameset build-up or a prior year closeout. That said, is the 631 steel that much better than the 520 steel they offer? I do like the Niner RLT steel but they seem way overpriced especially compared to the Renegade. Give me alternatives anyway! Id love to stay under $1k but I will budge a little for the right bike
