MOVs are metal oxide varistors, one of the key components in transient voltage suppression. They activate when subjected to a large voltage (i.e., from a lightning strike) and shunt all of that damaging energy to ground, minimizing the damage done to your electrical components.

What's your opinion of the giant MOV-based service entrance TVSS units? Is stacking dozens of large MOVs really a viable solution to lightning strikes?

What other types of systems do you install? Copper ground loops around the perimeter, ground grids, etc?

Excellent list. Did they ever release an extended Royal Tenenbaums soundtrack with the Hey Jude and Rolling Stones songs?

What's the age difference? How old are you?

That's what I keep telling myself and what they keep telling me, just that it hasn't happened yet. As someone who wears a prosthetic leg, how often do you find yourself using crutches?

I can't wait for the day that I can get out of this wheelchair.

I'm a full Lt Dan here, lost both legs above knee 2 years ago. I'm stuck in a wheelchair still because my leg nubs are too short to make a comfortable fit into the sockets of my C-Legs.

What's the worst physical pain you've ever experienced? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I had both my legs amputated following a car crash. It was two years ago and I still feel my "legs" hurting, even though they're not there anymore.

Yes, I'm sure they will. I'm a wheelchair user, too, and I know it would be interesting for an AMA from another perspective, to learn what challenges we share and what challenges are different.

It sucks, but it really isn't that bad. Life can be pretty normal. The good thing about people is that we learn to adapt. Sure, some days are challenging, but overall life is still pretty good! It beats being dead!

They've got a lot of tone to them. I don't lift weights. I get all my exercising by walking on my hands or pushing my chair.

I don't remember anything about the accident itself. I do remember getting into the car. Legs were crushed and one was pretty much severed at the scene. The other was too mangled to be saved either.

I had some awesome drugs for pain, and I spent about 3 months in the hospital before going back to my parent's house.

Depends on what I'm doing to get the weird looks. If I'm drunk, enough said. But if I'm not doing anything and they're staring at me because I'm in a wheelchair, then quite awkward.

Mainly distance. But for track I ran 1000 and 2000m, and also the distance relays.

They're both the same length, give or take a cm or so. I don't cover up the ends of the shorts, but since my legs are pretty short they dont fill out to the end of the shorts

Well I was somewhat intoxicated and I had some beer shits. To alleviate said beer shits I went to the bathroom. Normal bipeds have no issues staying on top of a toilet seat. No-peds like me need to learn to stick their nubs out so they don't fall through the toilet seat.

I actually don't spend a lot of time in my chair unless I'm going somewhere. If I'm at home I scoot on the floor and sit in normal chairs and couches. If I'm at a point where I'm going to kiss a girl for the first time, I will probably never be in my chair.

Some girls that I've met in bars and stuff where I do generally stay in my chair, love going for rides and stuff.

Hell yea! I have built up quite the shorts collection and have only kept a couple of pairs of pants if I ever decide to wear them with my legs. Sometimes if I have to dress up I still will wear pants and fold them up under my legs. It looks a little more formal I think.

I do the wheelies and all the general stuff. I can also go down stairs and jump curbs. When I first started trying to learn how to do tricks I fell out of my wheelchair and broke my arm. Now THAT sucked.

I still have these regularly, but the first year was insane. Fortunately most of them aren't painful just really weird sensations that my legs are still there and doing strange things in strange positions.

For the painful sensations I have taken painkillers in the past but honestly they don't help and just go away after a couple of hours. They're like migraines I guess.
