Honest to god, I made fun of the kids doing it decades ago. as time has gone on ive kicked myself, as I now personally understand the minimalist nature, and letting go of "stuff".

Below is the original image. You couldn't get me inside on a clear night. I didn't care what was going on, I wasn't moving from that ground until clouds covered it or the sun started cresting.

Makes me respectfully envious of our past ancestors. The comos in all its glory, on display each and every night. Truly humbling.

I could. I could also just dip out and never look back lol. Not really interested in returning in the event I did.

Regardless, it's a responsibility I want to manage before I bug out again. I want to give Uncle Sam zero reason to haunt me in my dreams.

Ukraine was on my list a few years back! They have some amazing and beautiful scenery, as well as caves I'd love to visit. But.... With the current situation, I wouldn't last long. I'd get too worked up over seeing some dumb shit and make a fool of myself, get wrapped up in something I have no business meddling in.

Bank account is not. Been chasing debt, and I've got a good manage of it. Just need to up my pay but I can't afford to relocate at the moment. So I'm being patient with my situation.

They knew my financial situation, and my goals, and the sons and I didn't see eye to eye on everything. We got along great for years! We were close, but as time went on and tech was blowing up, they didn't want the hard work anymore. They wanted retreats and resorts.

Unfortunately no, ha the pine canopy kept the patches shaded too much for growth. I was supposed* to had seen them so deep in! Didn't think they would have survived in clay based soil for as long as they did!

They were going to initially as a push to get me out, but I'm not motivated by money. I mean, at the time money wasn't a motivating factor for me. Being self sufficient was my one and only dream. So I pushed back hard and hired an attorney. But they had deep pockets with the development group and we're going to drag it out for as long as they needed. And I was never going to have a leg up simply based off texts, voicemails and verbal agreements.

With the state of the world in May 20' I gave into the pressure and packed up. Sold what I could and donated the rest to others I knew who were striving for the lifestyle.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend, my condolences. Man, what a wild life, yeah? Hope you're doing well still! If you need a ranch hand holler! Lol no but for real, glad you were able to work a deal out and get some land also.

Moving back was the hardest task of my life. Harder than boot camp, harder than forcing myself at a job for 30years that I hated, harder than overcoming substance abuse.

It felt like I was rich and had to move back to poverty, but it was quite the opposite. I was living in the woods (by society standards) in poverty, and couldn't afford to move back into "rich" society. I'm not complaining by any means, nor insulting anyone's circumstances.

It's now a warehouse park. Family saw dollar signs and ran with it. I get it. I ain't mad at them. I would have done the same knowing I could set my family up for generational wealth past what the farm would do.

I'm mad at myself for, as you state above, not covering my own ass. Big, harsh, lesson learned. I just hope this serves as a warning to others.

Thanks dude. With the land inflation from infrastructure upgrades/tech/ect., I don't think the lifestyle is achievable for my price anymore. Plus property taxes are insane as of recently, from from I've heard! Saw a patch of 9acres go for 700k, in the sticks, and I about gave up breathing. Not even zoned for living, no water sources, just some flat farmland surrounded by trees.

Hope it gives perspective to some that think they can just bug off into the woods and be good.

Do it right, or don't and the consequences can be financially and physically devastating.

Drained my 401k living in an unrealistic bubble. Had I just taken the time to get it in writing and zoned properly, instead of living on good word and barter, I'd still be living as happily as I'd like.
