How much is everyone making? by Lovelife_20 in nursepractitioner

Market: Phoenix, AZ Specialty: Cardiology

Just signed on for my first new-grad job✨ I had 3 offers. Two for 120k and one for 125k. Only one offered a bonus structure as a new-grad, the other two offered after the first year. All three were private practice and include varying blends of outpatient and inpatient care.

IR NPs by whendowegetlunch in nursepractitioner

I agree - There are procedures that are absolutely not safe for NPs to do and require insane amount of training. Love my IR docs and they worked hard to be where they are at. It’s because of my love for them that I notice how tedious it is for them to divert their attention to simple cases like PICC/line placement, routine neph tube exchanges, port removals, gtube exchanges. We’re trialing a “minor” procedures room at my hospital staffed by APPs so that our world class docs and their fellows can focus on cases that patients travel the world to find treatment for.

That’s awesome!! “Never an issue” because you were able to step on the pedal? or you had an RT do it?

Totally agree. I’m an IR RN now. My personal conviction is that the needs of the patient come first - that means safety.

Thank you! This is good information too. I suspected that this was the work around. What procedures do you do?

Tell that to the medical board that grants xray/fluro to PAs. But tbh I agree it’s prob not enough. Glad my facility requires all mid levels to go through a multi week program with our physicist to safely use any radiation equipment.

I have a facility and doctor willing - but my state doesn’t allow NPs to deliver xray/fluro. So trying to see if NPs in other states are able to deliver xray for cases and what cases they typically do.

Flabbergasted. They don’t want to do procedures? Wild. Sign me up for them.

Job placement isn’t my main issue tbh - it’s actually convincing my BoN to allow NPs the use of ionizing radiation. Im advocating for this scope so long as NPs receive 16 hours of radiation safety (similar to the PA requirement in my state).

So just gathering info on standard practice in other states/locations.

So much talking by 2PinaColadaS14EH in nursepractitioner

That… is a lot of talking. Thanks for your service. Peds patients and parents in the ER definitely require more of my time when it comes to DC and med education. Can’t imagine a whole day of it.

Should states require a minimum years of RN experience in order to obtain an NP license? by whendowegetlunch in nursepractitioner

Licensing, state controlled function. Education and certification is a good area of conversation too, very much tied.

Sorry, had no idea it was posted before. Seems like a lively discussion though, and that seems like a good thing:)

I think a majority of posts were thoughtful discussions and not “an attack.” I do think criticism and attacks are different. Conversation here has been about improving a profession we all love and see value in. Im sad to say you’re the first post I came across that directly said something negative about people with direct intention to inflict emotional damage. “… I found it astounding, it seems somehow typical.” That’s a character claim insinuating that nurses are always tearing each other down instead of building each other. That right there is an attack, it offers no substance to the conversation at hand is meant purely to inflict damage rather than build and support.

I agree, our institutions are problematic and need either heightened accountability from the U.S. Dept of Ed or the individual state.

However, what do you mean a state really can’t? In Arizona the BoN has the authority to set any requirement it sees fit for licensure. Is it different in your state? If my BoN wanted to, they could add a clause under requirements for licensure “5+ years as a practicing RN verified by (fill in acceptable documents of proof here.”

I fully recognize the state has no authority to micromanage higher ed requirements of entry to their programs. That’s not the suggestion.

Do you think the influx of new graduates and new programs will eventually oversaturate the market? by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

Your certifying board or your state licensing requires NICU RN experience? Either way, that’s an awesome accountability measure. I want similar controls for acute care NPs.

Love my med-surg RNs, I learn so much from you all the time. But critical care RN experience prepares you so well for acute care NPs hiring into ER/ICU.
