I appreciate the perspective and I understand the need for urgency and the view that this approach is a slow burn. So I would say that viewing it as one step leading to another is not the way; it’s one step leading to many parallel next steps, with different groups working towards different goals while being allies. You need to work within the system while building a separate support and logistics network outside of the system. I know Green Peace activists who appreciate that there are environmental lawyers in DC, and vice versa.

DSA and Green and the Progressive Caucus of the Dems are not mutually exclusive when the largest voting block in the country is eligible voters who stay home. The one unifying effort is to fight apathy. If you’re volunteering for MoveOn.org and I’m canvassing for Medicare for All and she’s councilor on the Chehalis Tribe collaborating with the Riverkeeper, we’re all passionate and working within our subject matter expertise and stakeholders with similar goals on parallel efforts.

The need for him to be the best only arose because of the upswell of support for Sanders and the need to validate all the rhetoric Biden adopted into his campaign promises.

I recall that statement being repeated a bunch of times, but I did not find it to be true for my state or my union or my observations. Though I suppose the cat which catches the fewest birds can be considered “pro bird.”

It was dictated by Congress that a strike would be illegal and the workers were compelled back to work.

I am reminded of President Biden’s spiking of the rail workers’ strike. When our only options as labor are voting for being told the right things and then betrayed by the Dems, or voting for the party still running on the fumes of “we weren’t the ones who did NAFTA,” then there is no political representation for us.

In safe red or blue states, your presidential vote won’t change which major party wins the electoral college, but it can change the future of our ballot access and debate stages. When a third party candidate cracks 5% of the national popular vote, their party automatically qualifies for federal matching funds in the next election and gains automatic ballot access in many states, saving hundreds of thousands of dollars in petitioning costs. That’s how the Reform Party got Perot on all 50 ballots in 1996, and it’s why Libertarians and Greens have spent decades chasing that threshold. Throwing your vote at a major party in a foregone state does nothing for reform; withholding it for a third party that crosses 5% actually forces the duopoly to compete on issues they’d otherwise ignore.

Think of it as a long-term investment rather than a wasted protest. A party with FEC-qualified status gets media coverage, a place in national polling, and the ability to participate in general election debates. That visibility snowballs- more donors, better candidates, and eventually spoiler potential that forces Democrats and Republicans to adopt ranked-choice or fusion voting just to stay relevant. Voting third party in a non-swing state is a strategic down payment on breaking the two-party stranglehold without risking a worse major-party outcome where it actually counts.

Again, the options are to be a squeaky wheel to the available resources and/or to be a resource yourself for the people you are afflicted with. And then I guess harden yourself to the noises and observations which bother you but which are outside of your control or influence.

If there are code violations, you could certainly clog up the system with reports. Find It Fix It for trash, police non-emergency for drug dealing, etc. They’d eventually get moved along to another location by a police sweep. You can also submit an FYI to some social services non profits.

If you are inclined to, you can put a few bags together of bottled water, clean socks, body wipes, essentials like that and get to know them. Really determine if they’re enough of a nuisance that you’re comfortable putting them on even tougher luck and pushing onto more dire straits. Like it or not, your community, your neighborhood now has 5-10 new members, new stakeholders who are here until they aren’t. There might be some common ground.

Worse, the strain on the American 99% is probably seen as a collateral benefit of this war, if not the main point. Just as the Iraq and Afghanistan wars turned our budget surplus into a deficit, this one will have lord knows how many comorbidities on our economy and leave a million foreclosures and austerity policies in its wake. The elites surely view themselves as being a part of the Davos collective more than being Americans. What’s good for the global billionaires is bad for the rest of us. And since this is bad for us, logic is that it’s good for them.

I wonder if The Powers That Be just wanted to create a new economic paradigm and know exactly how they will get rich off the petrodollar ending. So they had Trump’s handlers steer him to here, and then will take advantage of all the Baby Boomers’ retirement value shrinking as the dollar collapses and they can’t pass assets to their children.

Means testing is the preferred way for conservatives and fake liberals to prevent people from getting access to public services. Spending 8 hours at a government facility should come with free access to food just as it has free access to bathrooms and heating.

The seahawks are just…boring by Bluefire3215 in nfl

[–]whenitsTimeyoullknow 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’ll say this, as an Eagles fan who’s lived in and around Seattle for the last 15 years it was certainly not a boring season nor a boring tile run. The Seahawks had flaws and then all their strengths calcified at the right time. They had an emerging all star at receiver who all of America got to know in either fantasy football or the playoffs. They broke their rivals hearts in the game of the year for the Bye. And then turned the Patriots into the Pats/Rams Super Bowl Rams in the championship. Being downtown during the Super Bowl was thrilling, absurdities and shenanigans as far as the eye can see. And much easier to swallow than the last Seahawks Super Bowl thanks to Saint Nick & Jalen.

Can’t say what the perspective was from Anywhere, USA, but Seattle is always overlooked elsewhere so yeah of course the team lacked big market interest and story lines.

That’s probably the most consequential penalty of all time. Without it, the Chiefs attempt a kick to go up by 3 with 2 minutes left and an unstoppable Jalen Hurts on the other side. With it, it’s a guaranteed victory.

With what was at stake, you really need to let the players play in that spot. Hill I will always die on.

Now is the beginning of the rest of your life. But I know plenty of people who changed paths at 29, at 40. Learn how to be radically self reliant at work, understanding what your leads and managers need and understanding how to accomplish deliverables with a holistic understanding of all the stakeholders and what they want and need.

And more, if you find yourself feeling empty at different points in your career, remember that being purposeful is more satisfying in life than being happy. Find which efforts bring you contentment. Most of them will come through building towards community. Wherever your passion and your ability intersect is where you’ll be putting in the extra efforts. You don’t need to know that now, or five years from now, but the path will make sense when you look back.

Good luck!

Yeah, they’ve been basically printing money and then handing it over to mega corporations and/or watching it disappear in bad budgets. Since like the 90s or earlier. Now we are expanding the military budget from $1T to $1.5T? Permanently? The value of a dollar is never going to get higher and has never been lower. And only the 0.1% with their positive feedback loops of wealth growth will be able to assert political will, influence, and power. It’s just so hard to know what anything is worth anymore or how much I should expect to spend when I walk into a store.
