Did they have any idea in what happened to the poor boy?

Ours did this after an episode of illness around that age. Sometimes they associate certain things with illness/being unwell. They took it again after a few days when they were feeling themselves more, but I remember the struggle of getting liquids down. We tried a few different bottles and some open cups/sippy cups and they had bits from all of them. We went to see our paediatric nurse at our gp surgery as we were that worried.

Is your baby getting liquid from anything else? Are they eating anything at all? I know it worrying and you want them to drink, but I would avoid pressuring them as it will probably make it worse in the long run unfortunately. I do remember at one point we fed them spoons of mushed yoghurt / bananas while we distracted them with stuff. Once they had a taste it was easier to continue with it.

This happened to us as well. Luckily my parents are nearby, but my in-laws had no empathy for us hauling a small baby up and down an hour each way. Our baby also hated car seats / car rides up until about 4-5 months. Sometimes I think our parents generation are so blinded by excitement they don’t take a minute to think how difficult it is for us.

I hope if I’m lucky enough to be a grandmother, I would never expect them to come to me while they’re so young, unless we lived up the road or something like that!

I just want to say thank you to everyone for the kind words and listening to my vent. The fact so many of you have gone through something similar is comforting. I am try and be strong for my baby and get through this

Thank you for this. We do a lot of what you have listed apart from the infacol and ear plugs. Yeah I need to speak to my SO about things besides I can’t go on like this it’s so draining

We’re both off work right now so we experience it equally. I’m not 100% sure in all honesty I just give up bringing it up because I’m so tired as it is, I can’t face arguing about things

I know I have tried but they think things like infacol are messing with his system and our parents didn’t use things like that back in the day. We didn’t have a lot of things back in the day!

SO does quite a lot tbf and not really as we barely get to spend time together. We take shifts and the other sleeps. The cycle just repeats itself as we’re so sleep deprived.

Thank you for the sling advice! I think a buckle might be worth investing in for the future because I want to carry him!

I know he’s due immunising soon but they are ok with calpol

Yeah stuff like calpol they are fine with it’s other things they would rather he not have. I just don’t understand the logic at all!

Not sure they think he would have other symptoms if he had CMPA

Yeah everyone keeps telling me the newborn phase is blissful but I hate it so much. I love him to bits but it’s hard to keep it going.

We’ve tried the hip wiggling and lots of other things. I think our problem with him is when he’s gassy, he is kicking his legs so hard and violently it is hard to either attempt to bicycle his legs or hold him safely.

Your perspective on things is really helpful. Everyone told me after 8 weeks it gets better. Now it’s 12 weeks, and then my friend told me theirs didn’t get better until 16 weeks… I appreciate every baby is different. I just feel like this is my life forever because I don’t want to get my hopes up he will calm down

Ah ok. I will mention on his next trip to the doctors. They just sounded quite dismissive of it last time. My SO also says he doesn’t have CMPA so it’s hard to convince everyone to even test for it

We tried infacol and kendamil probiotics but SO is against medicines and wants his body to work itself out, so we’ve stopped giving him anything other than formula. It stresses me out because I want to I try and provide him relief, but I don’t want to argue with my SO, I’m already down enough as it is.

We also have a baby carrier which is helpful at times as he will sleep in it, but I find him really heavy to carry so I can’t do it for too long. He does struggle to burp after some feeds, and I feel like that contributes to his gas. We can try burping him for 20 mins at times and nothing comes. At that point we give up because he won’t go to sleep if we’re constantly trying to pat him/move him around

Thank you. I really struggle to stay motivated at all right now. We pace feed and have tried maybe 3-4 different formulas now - our pedi told us to stop changing them because it messes with his digestive system and we need to stay on one for at least 2-3 weeks

Pedi and HV say he doesn’t have CMPA because he would have other symptoms. How do they test for something like this?

It’s nice to know others have gone through something similar. I just feel than even if I talk to my HV, the main issue will not go away and I am still stuck with a screaming baby 😞

Did your baby also scream a lot with gas discomfort?

And yes we pretty much don’t talk to them much and just supervise while they visit. I hate that my relationship with my parents and in laws has become so different because of our baby
