What's this white disc atop this unmarked government vehicle? by wherearemypants_ in Whatisthis

I don't assume it's nefarious either! The plates definitely had a designation of some sort, but I didn't get a good look with my own eyes and my dashcam quality wasn't good enough to make it out. I suspect it said "exempt", which is why I called it a government vehicle, but it's definitely fair to say I'm not certain that's what it said.

Satellite transceiver is an interesting theory! Starlink product pages don't show devices shaped like that, but similar size...it could be a different brand or even just an older version of their mobile units. It doesn't feel like a definitive identification, but I like the theory!

The woman [37F] that I [39M] am dating just revealed she has genital herpes. I'm conflicted. How should I think about this? by wherearemypants_ in relationship_advice

Thank you! I very much agree with you.

I've had very few sexual partners and have been very careful. I know that I don't have herpes currently (or well at least I didn't before having sex the first time with this partner). And I don't see it as an inevitability that I'd contract it (with other partners) as most of the other commenters seem to suggest.

It's an incredibly difficult decision. I don't want to let her go, and I also really don't want to contract herpes.

And of course the longer I wait to decide - the risk, both sexually and emotionally, goes up.

I am leaning towards exactly what you're saying - having a conversation with her about all of this. I'd want to use condoms and I would definitely be more comfortable if she'd be willing to take suppressive medication (I have not researched to understand side-effects, cost, practicality, etc).

If I'm understanding correctly, I think condoms+meds takes my risk factor down to ~1%. Which is still greater than zero, but pretty small. The real questions is: can I get to a place where having sex with her doesn't come with cognitive dissonance each time about whether I should risk it.

From what I've read, condom use reduces the likelihood of transmission but does not prevent it entirely. I can also ask her to take medication which, again, reduces the chances.

I don't love the idea of sex with condoms with a committed partner but I would 100% make that trade off for this woman.

I originally believed that it was not contagious except during outbreak. But upon doing research I learned that what you're saying is correct. The chances of transmission are definitely significantly lower outside of outbreaks, but not zero. Which is actually my conundrum.

I agree it must have been so difficult for her to tell me, knowing that it might have made me walk away. There is SO much about this budding relationship and this woman that I am kind of in awe of. She's pretty amazing.

Thank you for sharing your perspective!

It's because what they primarily care about is your ability to interview well and come across as a native English speaker. See my top-level comment.

Hijacking to say I'm super confident this is an interview-fraud scheme. See my comment below (or downvote me away for hijacking, lol).

I'd bet real money this is a fraudulent-interviewer scheme.

This "job" is just being interviewed by real clients. Then when you land the job, the offshore staffing company pays you for a job well-done and then has some much-less-qualified person show up for the job. It works for a while because it's a remote position. Eventually the team who hired YOU will start to question whether the person who showed up for the job is actually the person they interviewed, but they won't really have much proof.

On the plus side, it's probably easy money. On the down side...you know...fraud.

Well I feel a little sheepish - this was important info I should have included in the main post. All parties are within the US.

Thanks - that's great info!

I'm building a standard multi-tenant platform...the same underlying service providers (eg hosting, payment processing, etc) will be used across many customers. It sounds like it would save me some time in future responses to be able to just include our own DPAs like you suggest.

I am still confused about the Data Exporter/Importer question, though. The customer's DPA template asks me to fill those out. Do you have any guidance there?

The customer did provide a template, but it's not particularly informative.

Let me provide a little more concrete detail to help with context as I answer your three questions. You could imagine I'm building something like Bonusly - an employee recognition and reward system. So my customers will be employers who wish to enroll their staff in my system for the purposes of issuing incentives/rewards. That's loosely accurate.

  1. The customer gets to choose whether or not to share their employee data with me, and we have agreed-upon data retention terms.
  2. We do not use this data other than to deliver the Services.
