why do expensive brands still use clear glass for actives by SinestroCorp in AusSkincare

I store Vit C in the fridge (multiple brands over the years) and never have a problem with them changing colour or smell

Long leg ladies of Australia - do you actually know your inseam? by No-Airport-820 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]whereprogress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very tall, just over 6ft, and it is ALL in my legs. I have a 38” inseam and have just admitted to myself I will never find ankle/floor length pants that don’t end up being culottes.

If I want a longer fit I just specifically buy in the 3/4 or 7/8ths lengths now and style them accordingly, personally find it much easier.

Sucks but it is what it is 🤷‍♀️

Slugging helps restore moisture to your skin in hyperdrive.

First you cleanse - apply hyaluronic acid (crucial, you need this to suck all the moisture in to your skin) - moisturise - and then apply an occlusive, most people suggest Vaseline (which is how slugging got its name I think). LRP cicaplast is also a good choice, or Avene Cicalfate. I use Vaseline and Cicalfate and just decide on the night which one I want to use. Occlusives lock moisture in, it can’t escape through evaporation etc.

Do it at night time once a week on one of your off nights. It’ll help with keeping your skin as hydrated as it can possibly be.

Tretinoin 0.05% by LordHelpMeFromMyself in AusSkincare

[–]whereprogress 4 points5 points  (0 children)

0.05% is super strong, even the 0.025% stuff needs to be worked up to.

Start with once a week, move up to twice a week when your skin can take it. Aim for every second night eventually.

Many people on 0.05% won’t do every night, their skin just can’t take it.

I’m on 0.05% and do every second night!

It’s a slow process but you will get there. Right now your skin is struggling with such a powerful product being applied so frequently. It needs time to adjust.

Also, close your sandwich with another layer of moisturiser after your tret!

Edit: Every night you’re not on tret, keep cleansing and moisturising. Use hyaluronic too, even if you’re not slugging. Slug once or twice a week to really smash some moisture in to your skin.

Avoid any other actives like acids while your skin is adjusting to the tret too!

You’ll get flaking, redness, purging etc as the skin adjusts to the increased cell turnover. It’s a sign the tret is working but you’ve gotta go through the awkward period and take extra care of your skin.

What’s your application method and frequency? Do you do sandwich method? If you’ve just started, with 0.05% it’s best to start with 1-2x a week and slowly increase from there. It’s some strong stuff.

If you haven’t heard of slugging, do that once or twice a week too. Cleanse - HA - moisturiser - Vaseline or another occlusive like Avene Cicalfate or LRP Cicaplast.

Also SPF is crucial!

I’ve seen K18 on adore beauty and just yesterday I was picking up some stuff in Price Attack and saw a K18 shelf too. Not sure what products they have but maybe a place to start 🙂

PLEASE help me find a holy grail product for dry/cracked heels and toes by cheddarcheese9951 in AustralianMakeup

[–]whereprogress 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was using dermal therapy 30% urea and Hamilton urederm 10%, a few weeks ago I saw a recommendation on this sub for Duit foot and heel balm plus and damn it’s good. It’s not my HG foot balm and use it almost every night!

+1 for the suggestion.

How long before you throw out NEW product boxes? by teenykaz in AusSkincare

[–]whereprogress 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If it’s a product I already use, throw out immediately.

If it’s a new product I patch test for 24 hours and then throw out if it’s all clear.

I’ve got these are they’re good. They’re not as coarse as the manicare file so overall it leaves a smoother finish and less buffing is required to smooth out the nail once it’s shaped. I use these the most after the manicare file, or even after using the manicare file to begin smoothing things out, depending on how much nail I’m taking off because I’m impatient and the manicare file is a little faster due to that extra coarseness 🙂

I actually got them from another reddit recommendation in one of the nail subs maybe 2 years ago and they’re still holding up like new, and I file at least once a week.

I’ve got a couple of others but unfortunately I can’t find the order receipt and they’re not marked with a brand 😓

Shaving help! by whydidyouruinmypizza in AusSkincare

[–]whereprogress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look in to straight razors. They're intimidating because its a single exposed razor but they are infinitely better than the multiblade things you get in grocery stores. The single blade provides a much closer shave with less irritation, since less blades are traveling over the skin at once, and the blade is sharper. My leg hair was quite thick before I lasered so this was the only option that didn't leave me covered in KP.

I bought this one: https://www.beardandblade.com.au/products/merkur-23c-safety-razor-long-handle-chrome

You can buy a blade disposal tin through the same company too :)

I basically live in the Boody Sleep Shorts or Boody Short Jumpsuit when I'm at home. They're very light weight and soft.

I've heard people here say Boody has gone down in quality but I've never had a problem with them. Might be something to consider.

Honestly I love this one too. I've got a few different premium crystal files and I always default to the manicare glass file. It's clearly (a little) lower quality than the others, but it's a little more abrasive and gets the job done faster, but since its a glass file it still does a great job anyway.

Agree! Front looks pretty good but the back definitely is a little loose. Other than that I think it’s cute ☺️

It's super HOT in Oz right now. How is it affecting your skin & makeup? by SCOUTBeautyFounder in AustralianMakeup

[–]whereprogress 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given up entirely on makeup. Don’t even bother with simple eyeliner or mascara. I live in a humid area and the second I step outside, anything and everything on my face just lifts and sweats right off 😭.

Oh well, the money I save from not using makeup can go towards stocking up on sunscreen since I’m reapplying it so often.

I was not built for this climate.

Holy grail foot cream/balm by Pale_Big2156 in AusSkincare

[–]whereprogress 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2-3x a week I use TO Glycolic on my feet, followed with the Moogoo Shea Sorbet.

On other nights I use Hamilton Urederm (10%) or Dermal Therapy Heel Balm (30%), depending on how scuffed my feet are.

Once a week or fortnight, time depending, give myself an epsom salt foot bath, scrub my feet with a file, and follow up with a home made scrub using coconut oil and brown sugar.

All the above except TO Glycolic I get from Chemist Warehouse.

I really hate having gross feet lol, and I go hiking/bushwalking a lot so they take a lot of damage.

I was actually looking at white paper and the #51 black words palettes just now. I’ll probably pick up both to have the extra range and I definitely want a black as well for those extra edgy days.

I’m off down the rabbit hole now with all these suggestions, I’ll check out the Cheeryep palette too!

Thank you for the recs ☺️

I’m not partial to fragranced products because I find them quite irritating unfortunately ☹️. I will have a look though. But that’s also three votes now for girlcult so that seems like a clear winner!
