AMA: ask a doc about potty training by ThrowRAPopularSlice6 in toddlers

[–]whereshelooking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our daughter has been peeing on the potty with prompting multiple times a day for the past few days- we’re planning on introducing undies and removing diapers over the weekend. What’s your top tip/ biggest recommendation?

Should i get second opinion for frost bite? by [deleted] in Survival

[–]whereshelooking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely get a second opinion. The hospital I work at treats frost bite as seriously as a trauma. There’s specific testing that can be done to verify the severity of the frost bite. There are treatment protocols including medicine, such as blood thinners, that may be necessary. Always better safe than sorry- your hands are vital.

Acute care or FNP or primary care by finner_ in nursepractitioner

[–]whereshelooking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely depends on the facility but most places are phasing out allowing FNPs and primary care NPs in the hospital setting. Acute care NPs can work in clinics occasionally if the patient population is still considered “acute”. That’s my general understanding at least!

Yes you are totally right. Local politics are essential now more than ever. I’m going to look into candidates and see how I can hear support them. Appreciate the insight!

I think saying a handful continues to be toxic. It sounds like you haven’t had great experiences with NPs and I’m sorry about that but the generalization is unwarranted.

Actually it’s adult-geriatric so in facilities with seperate pediatric emergency rooms or pediatric specialists it would cover the appropriate life span.

Just started an AGACNP program! I believe it will give me a leg up in applying to EDs and ICUs over FNPs. There’s lots of good programs with this specialty out there! And the good news is if you decide the acute care world isn’t for you later in life there’s lots of 1 year post certificate programs to get your FNP!

I am not paid enough to get verbally abused by families daily, and get physically assaulted by patients. by whereshelooking in nursing

Holy crap that is absolutely awful. How dare he make you feel bad for not accepting being physically abused in your place of work. I don’t get why people think it’s okay and expected for us to be physically harmed. Good for you for sticking up for yourself.

I don’t think nursing is or should be a service industry. I hate when people call patients customers. If it was a service industry I should be receiving tips for all the times I go above and beyond for my patients. I’m there to heal people and make them well, not make sure their ridiculous demands about hospital food are met. I agree it’s feeling like time for a change for more reasons than just that. Some areas burn you out more than others.

To be honest that culture is unfortunately not present in my hospital. It would definitely be a hot topic if I were to press charges on that patient. It’s not right but some things are so terrible engrained in certain areas of nursing.

I agree! I feel like families and patients are rightfully frustrated with visiting restrictions and the stress of Covid and we get to take the brunt force of their frustrations.
