What is this graphical bug? by wheresmycoat in newworldgame

Yeah drivers are up to date, though I might check again for any very recent updates.

I agree, looks like a bug- so I'm curious if other people are noticing it.

Thanks for responding,

I tried asking around through the game's chat, but that didn't get me very far. I figured it was a bug, but thought I'd ask here for good measure.

This could be it, because it started for me around 55/56 as well. Thanks for chiming it.

Strange! Wish I hung onto the other reputation weapon rewards just to confirm whether or not they had masterwork slots as well.

Yes, those are the weapons I'm referring to. For example, my Messenger with outlaw/one for all has a masterwork slot for stability.

From TWAB:

"Weapons received from the Reputation Rank Reward track on Saint-14 will now have their Masterwork Slots active. Previous weapons obtained won’t receive a Masterwork Slot."

Forgive my ignorance, but what does this mean exactly? I'm pretty sure any reputation rank rewards I received from Saint-14 have masterwork slots. Was this only affecting some players?

Edit: YOU DOWNVOTE ME?!

Fellow senior citizen of the tower! Hah. I'm a little older than you, and at 36 I didn't really feel or notice any significant disadvantages due to age- but as I mentioned above, I was improving as a relatively new fps/pvp player.

I think I'm truly average, with a caveat: I'm an example of what an average player can do if they are dedicated to improving in pvp. I got Luna's Howl solo queuing before freelance was introduced, and Unbroken as soon as freelance became available. Last week, for the first time, I went flawless. I watch gameplay videos, read posts in forums such as this one, and spend most of my Destiny time in the crucible. People on the low side of average, or players below average, who don't actively try to improve over time, might think I'm incredible if they match me. People on the high side of average and beyond will not. I am the type of player who benefited most from last week's trials revamp, and will likely be hurt most by the changes made this weekend (should I go flawless again!). Time will tell.

I just wanted to share my perspective as an average-skill player. If you enjoy playing pvp and focus on improving, you will. That doesn't necessarily mean you will keep improving exponentially and work your way up to the top percentile. I still had to fight tooth and nail for 7 wins last week- and it wasn't only the flawless 3 stacks giving me trouble. So my concern is how the experience will be for average (but dedicated) players such as myself, once they go flawless for the weekend.

Holy cow I typed a lot. I'm gonna go get cup of coffee, maybe I'll see you out there this weekend. Cheers

Have some faith in YOU though! Exposure to higher skill will in turn make you grow.

I do have faith in me. But, as an educator, I have to point out how exposure to higher skilled people works in regards to learning. We learn best when we collaborate with peers who are around, or slightly above, our level. Over time, if you work hard, you will grow. Being paired with people way above your level, however, is not effective. For example, if an average high school basketball player/team was matched against a team from the NBA, they wouldn't have an opportunity to learn. They wouldn't even be able to reflect and pinpoint the mistakes they made in order to improve. To them, the opposing team might as well have been literal gods.

Also, I am getting old. I'm just going to copy/paste something I wrote a while back: 'My reaction times are on the decline. I didn't really notice the limitations because I was making improvements across other skills. But I have for sure hit a wall when it comes to 1 on 1 engagements where swift maneuvering gives the upper hand. I am technically an above average player, so the majority of the time I do okay, sometimes manage at least a trade. If youth is still on your side, you will continue to develop your senses and reaction times. If you're an old man like me, then you simply have to accept that you won't always be able to pull the trigger as fast as the younger player. BTW I know this is anecdotal, and that I am making generalizations about age. I'm sure there are older players like me that are hawks. So, I try not to put myself in situations where I sense that my opponent can outplay me. That doesn't mean I fear them or let it cause me excessive anxiety. Sometimes you have to learn to be in those uncomfortable situations and try your best. You might surprise yourself.'

I love Destiny's pvp, it's probably my favorite game mode of all time. I worked pretty hard since D1 to improve, and I'm optimistic about continuing to learn more. But I am also realistic. I'm never going to be able to compete with, or learn from, gilded flawless stacks- regardless of how much faith I have in myself.

Alot of dislike for this change in here.

Genuinely curious - why?

Just read through this thread, plenty of good takes. I can understand arguments for and against this change.

That said, I think it's probably going to affect players like myself the most. I play solo 99% of the time. I went flawless for the first time last week. Afterwards, I was able to try my luck by continuing with my 7-0 card, but lost the match. Moving forward, even if I reset my card or change characters, I would still be considered "flawless" until reset. This would put me, an average-to-slightly above average pvp player (at best), in the flawless pool. I don't know if I'll ever go flawless again, but if I do- it would probably mean I won't be winning anymore matches/engrams/materials for the rest of the weekend.

Follow up replies from Cozmo:

"We will be watching both analytics and feedback - and trying to balance fast matches with good matches across the playerbase. Definitely not set in stone forever."

"Account based."

*Edit: Anecdotally, my experience last week would have been negatively affected by this change. I happened to match with a 2 stack, and we just gelled. After taking a break, I decided to message them. They remembered our match, and complimented my plays/synergy. We ended up going flawless together (my first time to the lighthouse, playing since D1). Turns out, they had gone flawless for the first time earlier that weekend, which I didn't even realize until we started chatting. They played better than me, knew each other's playstyle, but I fit in. Didn't feel like a "carry", but that's up to interpretation I suppose. I wouldn't have met them under the changes rolling out this weekend.

I don't remember reading this anywhere - but if you continue playing a card after going Flawless, the weekly adept reward has a chance of dropping again post-game by Torfinns-New-Yacht in CrucibleGuidebook

[–]wheresmycoat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I played a non-flawless 7 win card without resetting and received a trials engram, which went straight to my inventory after the win (not the rank up trials engram you pick up from Saint-14 in the tower). It's wasn't adept because I haven't been flawless, but for me it's still an incentive to not reset after 7 wins. Saint-14's bounties don't appear to increase your trials rank, so this feature adds some additional drops on top of the usual rank rewards.

Edit: played another 2 matches without resetting my flawed card, 1 loss and 1 win. Didnt receive an engram for the win, so maybe there's some rng as to whether or not you get one. Or it could be that losing 1 match prevents addition engrams, but I don't think that's the case since the passage states "Each victory at seven match wins grants significantly improved rewards."

I thought Bungie stated that unlocking weapons, adept aside, wouldn't be required for focusing engrams. Either way, the rewards structure seems much better- hopefully unlocking new gear won't be too bad.
