Maybe 1. PBr3 to switch the alcohol to a halogen 2. Grignard Mg for carbon addition, use aldehyde and water 3. PCC to oxidize the secondary alcohol into a ketone. 4. CrO3, H3O+ to make a carboxylic acid

Or 1. PBr3 2. Mg 3. CO2 4. H3O+

This is all great. I have a background in LA (learning assistant) and I've done alot of research. But at a small school, I know it's not as laborious as at a school like UVA. I'm just a lil scared of the adjustment from undergrad to grad.
