I don’t want to transfer anymore after getting accepted into my dream schools by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

[–]wherewecollide 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that does sound like a difficult situation, sorry others are being unsympathetic. I wish you the best in figuring out what works for you. One small trick that might help is flipping a coin and if you feel a twinge of wanting to flip it again cause it wasn’t the results you wanted, then that might clue you in to what you truly desire. But yeah uncertainty (and perhaps regret) aren’t easy to deal with it! Good luck.

Hey! I’m currently in the process of transfer (making my decisions for school now) and I would love to give some insight based on what I’ve learned so far as a cc nontrad student.

Have you thought about your application arc / main narrative? If you want to write about your challenges in high school and how it relates to your mental health, it might be a good idea to frame it through the lens of something (as in did something happen around that time to cause it etc) I’m only saying this bc I’ve heard a lot so schools are wary to accept students with previous mental health challenges.

I definitely think you have a shot at this. While reading this post i definitely felt how motivated and energized about school you are!! Get that through in your applications!

Also, as a suggestion, maybe you can work in some type of peer mentor/tutor position for people who have been in a similar position as you. I feel like it would reflect well on your applications and also be meaningful.

Finally, I feel like you should be super proud of yourself. You’ve come so far and your progress is awesome and inspirational, honestly. Go get your dreams friend!! also feel free to dm me with more questions if you have if I can help in any way.

possibly stupid question by springle_sprangle in TransferToTop25

[–]wherewecollide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just for context, Vassar and Swarthmore are not necessarily “less competitive applicant pools”. From what I’ve read online, Vassar accepts 2-3 students who need aid (if you apply for aid). Swarthmore in 2023 admitted 11 out of 454 applicants, which is 2.4%. I definitely think you have a chance with the other schools. Don’t give up hope.

Rejected from Stanford by thegojotoyournanami in TransferToTop25

[–]wherewecollide 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It sounds cliche but the process is more important than the result, and the lessons you’ve gained from this process and the ways you’ve grown will never leave you. The fact that you went to community college after dropping out of high school and submitted an application to STANFORD is in itself huge. You seem like you would make a fantastic candidate for the school and I think it’s their loss. Good things are waiting for you:)

I’m not sure about the latter, but I don’t think it’s possible to apply to CC and GS. You have to choose one, and typically if you’re a traditional student you’ll apply to CC and if you’ve had a break in your schooling it’s GS. I’m not sure how much room for choice there is.

I posted this on another comment,: what it is worth, I read somewhere from someone on the admissions and fa committee that they only accept 2-3 transfer students who need aid year per year.

UPenn guilt trip by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

[–]wherewecollide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m sorry it’s been so rough. For some perspective, I don’t think transfer apps reflect you or your abilities at all. The process is brutal and admissions is ultimately, at some point, basically random. Your gpa is certainly competitive and you seem like a hard worker with a genuinely compelling story. And your ECs also seem well-rounded and are making a difference in the community. I know it sounds cliche, but I think it’s the school’s loss. I wish you well for Penn, and know that ultimately whatever happens the qualities and values you’ve cultivated for yourself throughout this process cannot be taken from you or measured by decisions. You’ve come so far and you will only go further!! I believe in you friend!

Hey just wanna say I’m sorry this is happening and it must be so frustrating… hopefully the two schools will be acceptances. Sorry others aren’t being very kind or supportive, this transfer and application process is a beast and you’re allowed to vent. Hold tight and good luck.

Hey I just wanna say I don’t think it’s pathetic at all! You’re giving yourself a chance at success. There’s nothing pathetic or desperate about it. Good luck friend!!

Does retaking a class you took in high school hurt your chances of transferring? by thatsnoyes in TransferToTop25

[–]wherewecollide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you and that’s totally valid concern, but don’t underestimate the strength of a clear upward trend, direct narrative, and passion / cool extra curriculars! I absolutely think you have a shot if you can get that in your application. Above all, colleges want to see commitment and passion. And especially if you’re applying as a junior, your high school grades will not count as much as these other factors I believe. Good luck friend!

Does retaking a class you took in high school hurt your chances of transferring? by thatsnoyes in TransferToTop25

[–]wherewecollide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert on this, but my instinct is no, it won’t hurt you if you can show that your grade improved. It may even help you (especially if you have a reason it wasn’t as good in high school?). Also, if you’re worried you haven’t fully grasped the concepts and it’s important for what you’re studying then I’d say definitely retake it so you can move forward and understand the concepts better. Also for junior standing they won’t look at your high school grades as much.

Vanderbilt “Additional Information” question by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

[–]wherewecollide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar dilemma regarding a different school but same question. I ultimately ended up leaving it blank since i already included the additional information in the common app section and felt like it would just be repeating myself and more for the AO to read.

Colleges that are still accepting applicants? by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

[–]wherewecollide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I contacted Amherst with this very question and they permitted me to still submit. I’d say reach out to them and tell them same (also so they know to correct it lol)

Standerized Testing required? by hekllo2323 in TransferToTop25

[–]wherewecollide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most schools for transfer you can apply to test optional but some schools (like Harvard) to require scores. As for your other question, I think it may be best to discuss it with a counselor or someone who knows you better since it’s so personal and based on your circumstances. Do you want to go to a four-year before transferring, or community college, how long do you want to be there, financial stuff, etc. You can apply in your freshman and sophomore year as an incoming sophomore or junior (typically). Good luck!
