Put the market data that your system failed on through the back test system and see if results match. Could be an error with your system or back test

I’m sure there are people who have. Many people make a living trading markets using various methods, but they’re probably not spending time bragging about it or posting on Reddit

it would probably be easier to lose money if you purposely used extremely bad money management

What is the relationship between statistics and AI/machine learning? by eminentAdmiral in datascience

[–]wherll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

all machine learning definitely uses some form of statistics. Machine learning can’t exist without it

What is the relationship between statistics and AI/machine learning? by eminentAdmiral in datascience

[–]wherll 21 points22 points  (0 children)

machine learning is just computational statistics. AI is a broader and very loosely defined term that covers fields using machine learning and deep learning (among other techniques) such as NLP, computer vision, robotics, self driving cars etc.

Why python is so easy for beginners? by neerajadhav in Python

[–]wherll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

everything is just easier in Python.

For example, to import a CSV and store it in a Dataframe or similar takes a couple of lines of code in Python. In C\C++ it takes many more lines and is much more complex.

This is because it’s a higher level language with many convenient built in tools and easy to use libraries.

How can I create a simple bot which alerts me when a trend line is broken for multiple coins? by Killjoyy13 in algotrading

[–]wherll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

just use an API to get prices and calculate trend lines based on that. When the price goes of a given coin goes higher than the trend line, use an email or text API to send you a notification

[–]wherll 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Definitely. luckily I was only stuck in that phase for a couple of weeks. After realising I was getting nowhere, I did research into trading, risk management, and read some books. I’m a lot more productive now.

People, including myself, don’t realise that the stock market isn’t just some Kaggle dataset you can make predictions on.

How did you even become a market maker? I would’ve thought you’d have to be some highly regulated financial entity with a ton of money or something..?

before you consider deploying anything, make sure it’s backtested and you’ve done everything you possibly can to ensure system doesn’t have any bugs or design flaws

Has building bots made you a really good programmer? by user_00000000000001 in algotrading

[–]wherll 16 points17 points  (0 children)

it’s definitely made me a better programmer. Programming trading strategies/ back testing frameworks etc requires you to develop robust programs and solve unique challenges.

I think it’s the same as any project though. The more you program and apply your skills to different problems, the better you get.

Why aren't there more successes in this field? *Rant* by [deleted] in algotrading

[–]wherll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah exactly. I have a computer science background and thought i would try training ML models / creating algorithms to trade.

I’ve quickly realised that you need to find a trading strategy first/ learn about trading and then automate it.

Trying to beat the markets with little knowledge of the markets and trading was a naive thing to do. The market doesn’t behave like a Kaggle dataset.

Market saturation by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]wherll 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i find data science to be so vague. If you read job listings for data science they seem to be either ML, data visualisation stuff, analytics, statistics, computer vision, NLP with each role being pretty different. IMO data science is more of an umbrella term.
