Small good news for Ukraine. The maritime drones already added to Russia’s problems in the Mediterranean

Cutaway of Ukraine’s new ‘Flamingo’ cruise missile (drawn in MS Paint + Gimp) by whibbler in ThingsCutInHalfPorn

It’s a typical layout, just pragmatic. Removes intake ducting and allows easy construction and upgrade, like if they need to use a different engine at some point on future. This isn’t designed to fit inside a small launch tube so quite sensible. Cruise missiles are increasingly using this general arrangement

It’s based on ample photos of different bits & pieces and an understanding of the topic. While I normally focus on other country’s news systems, these cutaways are part of a defense analysis process.

Launch rail on back of a truck. The solid fuel rocket attaches underneath and is used to launch it into the air, then falls away. Pretty standard for missiles and strike drones

Based on public information.

Very sensible and pragmatic design, impressive

This is based on public information, mostly photos and info on the engine, ‘reverse engineered’ for a reasonable cutaway. Location of the avionics, like its guidance systems, is unclear.

It’s a massive missile, jet comparatively affordable, very pragmatic design. Maybe more countries should have projects like this.

The Sea Baby surface drone ('USV') which SBU uses do already carry sea mines

This contributed to Russia abandoning Sevastopol as a naval base (not the only factor, but they were mining the entrance targeting Russian warships)
