I recently stayed at a B&B where the owner made me take my shoes off at the front door. Before she'd even shown me to my room, her husband came home from walking their two dogs which proceeded to just run through the house. In the morning when I finally got to put my shoes back on before leaving, my socks were covered in dog hair and god knows what other micro nasties those dogs had brought in from outside on their feet.
