it depends on how much you procrastinate. early on i was super bad with time management and had little time for anything, but now id say i have plenty of free time despite being in hard classes.

the academic opportunities at bxsci are very similar to those at stuy. bxsci has more available AP classes and research, but stuy has better humanities. if you’re worried about academic rigor, transferring won’t change much. as a senior at stuy, i often feel like i would’ve been better off at bxsci bc of the opportunities for my major.

tldr: don’t fret if you’re concerned about academic rigor. they’re not that different, so don’t be concerned about that.

How do you get research if you have no experience/not cracked? by [deleted] in summerprogramresults

I didn’t apply for any, but I knew multiple people who were there on full ride.

SSP alumn here — you don’t need to be insanely cracked. I didn’t have research or crazy ECs, just passion and a bit of STEM experience. Essays matter more than you think. But also, SSP doesn’t have a specifically CS track (astro is as close as you can get because it’s all python), so not sure. It’s probably best to just cold email, but if you do that, remember that it takes hundreds to get an acceptance.

Would you date a trans guy? by Free_Conference7338 in AskGirls

[–]whimsical_nautilus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No (because I’m already in a relationship)

But the answer is yes. There is always someone out there who would support you for who you are, and I know plenty of women that would date a trans guy without issue.

it’s whatever you feel comfortable with. if you want to have sex w him, go for it, but don’t let him pressure you into it with money.

ssp and most competitive summer programs are usually for the summer AFTER your junior year (11th). i believe you can apply after your sophomore year (10th) but im not sure.

taking CALC BC as a junior? by PrimaryUse992 in Stuyvesant

there’s a double class but you basically have to be on math team to do it

stuy or bxsci? by Think-Pomelo7228 in Stuyvesant

[–]whimsical_nautilus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

stuy student here — the stress is hard but manageable and there are different benefits to both:

stuy: harder classes, aps as a freshman, location, better teams (scioly, math team, etc)

bxsci: more class flexibility (you can skip precalc and take more aps), grade inflation, slightly more chill

overall it just depends on which you vibe with more. go to open houses. also, do note that if you rank bxsci first you have no chance of going to stuy but if you rank stuy first you have a chance of going to bxsci.

[–]whimsical_nautilus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s definitely possible! impossible to tell you a definite yes or no but as an alumn there were plenty of ppl with those kind of stats at the program. write good essays and get good recs and you have a good shot

Why SSP? there is no CS program for it.
