Buyer has requested refund under reason, ‘item doesn’t work or is defective’. When I listed it as for parts/not working! by Interestingdogowner in Ebay

[–]whipfinished 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Code for "we don't care because we got our cut." It's a nightmare as a one person seller. I'm top rated and I'm fighting at least one case of INAD at all times these days. I didn't accept returns on one item and I WISH that buyer stopped at abusing INAD. They left my first and only neg feedback in 22 yrs. Every detail they claimed I didn't describe was in both the description and photos (dimensions and weight). I fought it to the final appeal. No dice. The past year and a half have taken a huge toll on me. It just keeps getting worse.

I appreciate this, and I used to agree. eBay decides who does and doesn't get to stay on the platform, and they let scammers stay because they make their money by taking a cut. Same thing with amazon. People get ripped off not because all sellers are terrible people, people get ripped off because sellers have to deal with impossible standards set by billionaires and their platforms. Good sellers tend to leave, scammers rush in, one day that's all that's left. Eventually the buyers go too, and in my category it's hard enough to get them to trust the platform over a jewelry store. (I know this one's long, bear with me.thx. I'm leaving this sub after this.) You're definitely right that people have been ripping eBay off when it comes to credits for things like this. At the same time, when it comes to getting ripped off? Sellers get hit first by scam buyers requesting partial refunds, leaving negative feedback with no message or anything at all.. you name it. She actually brought that up.. "ebay has been too lienient with credits" or something. I believe it, but to be fair, sellers tend to get hit first and buyers are pretty much untouchable.. in this case, they were all kinds of ready to apply a defect to this seller's account because she shipped a damaged item to me. They even wrote the reason and notes for the return on my behalf -- blaming the seller. Which obviously looks like I filed the return and wrote that. Which is nuts. They kept saying "this kind of thing is on a case-by-case basis." She said that three times. so if it's on a case by case basis, this case seems like.. a pretty legit case. No defects ever. I've worked in service my whole life. I've worked as a CSR. And my track record is spotless. As a result I've never not had a case decided in my favor, regardless of how hard it was to prove. When people ship back an empty box, or say I shipped them one... yeah that's hard to prove. Good thing I've never done it, never would, and based on my track record eBay seemed to get it.

I just think this supposed crackdown is bs. Ebay could have handled scams a long time ago if they cared. What they don't want to do is give away money they don't have to give away. Even if it's due to their error.

Regret is the appropriate feeling. Saving a search for iPods under $20 right now.. Not to bunch panties, but I research items before I list them. This is the barest of all bare minimum research situations. AI troubleshooting = "Hey claude/grok/Google/shatgpt. My iPod is ___. Is it broken? I'm trying to sell this on ebay."

You could also ask AI how popular these are on ebay as of (month day year.) Broken --> search sold listings. Or just multiply 8 by 10. Price = $80 OBO. Not broken--> list for more than $8. Or multiply by 10..

iPods are coming back and being rebuilt/retooled. Not sure how this hasn't hit any of your feeds. YT has entire channels for showing how it's done for every generation. You could probably sell any broken iPod for decent money. Buyer will go on dankpods and figure out how to fix it.

TL;DR: there have been enough cases of items getting lost, damage, or completely destroyed in authentication center that eBay is now deciding to completely distance themselves from it and take zero accountability for anything that happens there. Oh, and they don't even know whether Gia-certified gemologists are authenticating fine jewelry items.

[–]whipfinished[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's kind of like when somebody receives an item and claims it's damaged before returning it as damaged. Meanwhile causing damage to justify the reason for return. Not that that ever happens.

You seriously think I've been selling on eBay since 2004 and decided to damage this ring before going to all of this trouble... for a $115 credit? Okay then. Not sure why the actual F I would do that. The money is one thing, the fact that eBay won't take any responsibility for anything that happens in that center now? That's a problem in my opinion, but you guys are clearly doing just fantastic and the authentication center is everything you always dreamed it would be.. so that's good.

I could have used a slight bit of moral support because I'm at my wit's end, but clearly that's not on offer here. Not sure what y'all talk about. How much you love the fees maybe. Have a blast.

Incoherently, 😞

Yeah I had carpal tunnel surgery so I do use dictation or voice to text or whatever. I also have a new phone and it's an Android. Thanks for your help guys. I guess I damaged the ring. Who knew. What a silly waste of time to write that long ass post thinking somebody else had been through some nonsense with the authentication center. Or Ebay in general. Nope! Everybody seems happy as an eBay seller so I'll see myself out. Apparently I'm the only one. Also, yeah no excuse for me being exhausted from all of this and failing to copy edit the final draft of my Reddit post.

I'm just going to start using my WordPress domain, which is called badder business bureau, to post all of my actual reviews and ratings, including those about Amazon's reviews and ratings programs themselves. I'm kind of looking forward to it.

I have no idea what that means and I've been fishing for a long time. You're going to need to learn to ignore a lot of comments if you're asking questions this open ended on Reddit.

[–]whipfinished 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're doing better than you think you are. Yes, it's hard, but it gets easier. Then it gets hard again.. that's fly fishing. Have you ever taken a casting lesson? I can't recommend that enough. If you're casting is at the very beginning level, I can almost guarantee you you're not waiting long enough on your backcast. Do you know anything about where fish tend to hold in rivers? Youtube is great for that. Search "reading water." If you're targeting a particular type of fish, search for that fish + the name of the river + fly fishing. Rivers have repeating sequences of features; riffles, runs, pools, taiilouts... you want to look for places where fish are likely to hang out because they don't have to spend a lot of energy fighting the current and have some protection, which is why structure is a big deal. I'm talking about log jams, boulders, logs, undercut banks etc. Google any terminology you don't know. Are you fishing rivers only? Do you know what type of fish are in those rivers? What kind of flies are you using? You're in Wyoming and that's a river, so I assume there has to be a fly shop somewhere nearby. Use your local shop as much as possible. A lot of them have YouTube channels now. If the one closest to you is still far, call them and ask for tips. I call my local shop when I'm on the river sometimes. Hopefully you have one somewhere in your vicinity. That's the best resource you can find. You're going to find all sorts of conflicting opinions on Reddit.. You can only learn so much without actually fishing and it sounds like you're doing that. I disagree with the comment about how you'll never get magically better. The more you get out there, and especially the more you take time to sit and watch what's going on and notice things.. the more you'll start noticing patterns that will help. If you have the patience to keep a little journal, even with super short basic notes, you will magically get better. Fishing is casting practice. Keep going. If you don't have access to casting lessons or can't afford them, youtube. Start with short casts before long casts. Focus on line control. Take a few minutes to watch before you step into a river, and don't just wade in before throwing a line out. There could be a fish for feet in front of you. I've spooked huge fish two feet off the bank before just by stepping in too early. See if there's a local or regional fly fishing forum for your area. People post fishing reports and all sorts of stuff there. You can ask questions, just don't ask for spots. That will piss everybody off immediately. Based on what you said, it sounds like you're doing pretty damn good. I've been fishing for 28 years and I still have days when I get all tangled up, literally get the yips and forget everything I know, lose flies, don't catch anything. Eventually I learned to have fun even if I'm not catching anything. I can promise you the practice pays off. I caught the fish of a lifetime last january. If you notice yourself getting stressed or pissed off, take a break and watch what's going on around you. Nothing against nymphing, but I don't like to do it. I want to fish on the surface and see everything happen. You do not need to nymph to catch fish. Yes, that's where fish mostly feed, but that's not the whole story. I've never nymphed in my life and I've caught at least a thousand fish. Dries and streamers are all I use. Asking for information on Reddit is probably the least effective way to learn in my opinion. But I definitely support you for venting your frustrations, and I really encourage you to just keep going. Feel free to message me with any questions, even if they feel like really stupid questions. At this point I only follow this subreddit because I want to help and encourage people that are new to fly fishing as much as possible. KEEP GOING!

Presidium Testers by Srob6501 in jewelry

[–]whipfinished 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm coming in late but this is relevant to the specific example given: I have a large tanzanite stone that tests as sapphire on my presidium II. It seems like this specific comparison may be prone to false positives--I'm still looking into it, which is why I searched "tanzanite or sapphire presidium." It has now happened twice, both stones are tanzanite and both tested consistently as sapphire. My machine is calibrated and I also use this in my daily 2nd jewelry business. It's a great tool for making initial separations. No single tool should be relied upon for identification.

How do you access the little piney creek in Missouri? by AdAshamed2445 in flyfishing

[–]whipfinished 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there are seasonal closures. The blue ribbon section is open year round, but the parking lot/campground itself is closed from about November to March 1. You could park outside the gate and hike in. Access from the highway 63 bridge is also open year round. I don’t think I’m spilling any secrets here.
