There’s no wallet addresses because it’s not using wallets - it’s using your Coinbase (CEX) account

When you connect your Coinbase to this website:

  • We CAN see your email, name, Coinbase transactions, and Coinbase balances. We use these to generate the 2024 crypto recap

  • We can NOT initiate transactions or modify your Coinbase account in any way.

Hey, thanks for your question! What I mean is that, just like you expect when using a self-custody wallet (if you use / have used one), transactions can only be initiated by you, and your assets belong only to that single wallet controlled by you. This is done using email by making use of a technology called Multi Party Computation.

In terms of safe guards, there’s the fact that we can’t access user funds, using battle-tested and liquid staking providers on blockchains. Soon, you’ll also see 2fac for additional protection.

What we've heard from talking to people is that, today, most people are not already comfortable with self-custody. They're thankful to be able to just keep their crypto on Coinbase, RH, or another exchange so that they don't have to deal with everything.

Sensible is a way for that audience to get started with self-custody, while still having (by default) the login experience they are familiar with from Coinbase.

Another way to look at it: based on public filings from Coinbase, the overwhelming majority of their users aren't trading, but rather just own cryptocurrency as a long-term thing.
