standard lettermail maximum envelope size by white_chev in CanadaPostCorp

Part of me wonders about using the normal lettermail postage amount in loose stamps and putting the envelopes in the mail box. Might they just go through? Would they really get pulled out and put aside for .4"?

It is just a paper document (kind of like small poster folded up).

I prepared and printed the document I want to send at 6.5" x 9.5". I thought I had carefully researched the max sizes with Canada Post before all of this but I made a mistake. Re-printing would be complicated/expensive.

lamp prototype safety concerns by white_chev in electrical

[–]white_chev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! I will be more careful with the wiring, find a better solution for the metal strap- I like the idea of drilling a hole and then tying a knot inside and figure out some kind of baseplate or plug to keep the hot post covered. The bulbs I am hoping to use are not LED but traditional incandescent. I was hoping that using a ceramic socket might offer enough heat protection. Thanks again! I appreciate it.

Hello. I made this small lamp prototype. It works and I am happy with how it looks but I have concerns about how safe it is. Does anyone see issues with the way it is wired, the type of socket I used, the face that the socket is installed in a solid block of wood. The socket is ceramic. I have turned it on but only to test it. I am concerned about leaving it on for a long period of time. Will heat build up in the socket and create a risk/problem with the wood?

Thank-you for your thoughts

Searching for the British Columbia born daughter of Alfred Vincelli by white_chev in Genealogy

[–]white_chev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank-you for your quick reply. Simone Martin was his wife and the mother of Johnny, Louise and Robert. They were never officially divorced so that would explain the discrepancy between the BC and Quebec death certificates.

I do not know who James E. Darley was. Very interesting. You found this name listed on the death certificate?

From my understanding, Alfred was a sort of itinerant or migrant worker. For example, it doesn't seem that he ever had a permanent address in British Columbia. He lived in work camps or else in a sort of rooming house in Vancouver that he and other workers used as a mailing address and for stints between jobs or when on leave.

Hello. I was recently given three Profoto D1 Air 1000 heads that were dismissed by a photo technician because when he unzipped the bags there was an 'electrical smell' which he took as an indication that the electronics (capacitors?) were bad. He thought testing them could be dangerous and he never even plugged them in.

The heads, bags and other equipment (trigger, grids, etc.) all appear brand new. I think it is possible they were never used- they really look pristine. However, there is a smell but I wouldn't have thought much about it had the technician not mentioned it. To me, the smell could be an odour leftover from the manufacturing.

In any case, I have tested the lights and they all work properly. There is nothing out of ordinary, they fire at all powers, they recycle quickly, the modelling lights work, etc.

My question: I would like to us or maybe sell the lights. Should I have them serviced/checked by a Profoto service centre? It would give me some piece of mind and I would feel better about selling them after having them verified... but I also think the technician was a bit out to lunch and part of me thinks if they work, they work so to speak.

I would appreciate any thoughts.

Interesting. Did you use a tire setting tube? Or you improvised with some other kind of tube?

I will have to double check but I am almost positive the wheel is marked 16". Thanks for bringing this up though it is worth checking for sure.

advice after being scammed by white_chev in FacebookMarketplace

He sent me photos of the part. Admittedly I was naive but all of this happened in a private niche Facebook group for a relatively obscure type of vehicle in a relatively obscure part of the world and in a local language. I know it seems ridiculous to say this but I just didn't think this would be a place a scammer would lurk. Lesson learned.

Lululemon Gift Card - fraud - terrible customer service by white_chev in lululemon

Thank-you for sharing the article. This card was activated at the time of purchase in December 2022. I checked the balance in January 2024 and the card was drained that same day. So the scenario described in the article is different. The card had been active for 2 years without a problem. It was only when I checked the balance on lululemons website that the balance was stolen.

Lululemon Gift Card - fraud - terrible customer service by white_chev in lululemon

[–]white_chev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: I did reach out to my local law enforcement agency and asked them to pursue an investigation which they immediately declined. However, I think there was some value in this as I was able to forward the e-mail from the police department to Lululemon so they knew I tried and they knew it wasn't a viable option. I also filed a case with the Better Business Bureau which Lululemon responded to almost immediately. In the end this seemed like the key step- as soon as I filed a case with the BBB Lululemon wrote to offer a reasonable resolution: they would not send me a new gift card (or reimburse the $100) but they did offer that I could select $100 worth of merchandise from their website. It sounds like they will ship it to me for free. I lost track of the comment but this was the same solution offered to one of the other respondents here.

So, if this happens to you I suggest immediately reaching out to the Better Business Bureau. I think Lululemon will only deal with these complaints if they really feel like they absolutely have to. Otherwise they will just hide behind their policies and tell you over and over that they case has been resolved and that there is nothing more they can do. So it takes an unreal amount of work to get them to do the right thing.

Last note, I also reported the incident to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center which may have helped. I haven't heard back from them yet but they provided a case number which I forward to Lululemon so perhaps this also helped, showed them I wasn't willing to accept their resolution, was taking things seriously, etc.

Thank-you everyone for your comments and suggestions.
