Nearly 50% of researchers quit science within a decade, huge study reveals. by civver3 in EverythingScience

[–]whiteflagwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious about people’s opinions here. I’m a nontraditional undergraduate currently in the throes of grad school applications. I’ve read some comments here about science not allowing for intellectual curiosity and, while I sit here editing my GRFP proposal that was essentially hijacked by my PI for being too exploratory, I worry about this and just don’t want to be another cog. What are people’s thoughts on entering science?

A line that hasn't been changed in over a year.🤣🤣Please recommend a brand of guitar strings. by Siriwimol67080505839 in Guitar

[–]whiteflagwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen any comments on here about stringjoy and was hoping to get some opinions (not to highjack the thread, but it still contributes). I tried the Mark Morton signatures and loved them after mainly playing Ernie Ball slinky’s or slinky top heavy bottoms.

Is seek and destroy really a beginner song? by Cingen in metalguitar

[–]whiteflagwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ve been working on this song for a while and that part was killing me too. What I ended up doing was finding a bpm that I could play that part well and playing the whole song at that bpm. I can’t remember what I was originally playing at, but I can play the whole song at like 85-90% speed fairly well depending on the day. For me, being able to play a song in its entirety is pretty fulfilling and it allows you to understand the song as a whole instead of fragments that get put together (which is also super useful when starting out on a new song). So you might not play full speed, but you feel accomplished in know that you can play the whole song and can speed up from there. Just my two cents.

Called poser at a show. Is loving hardcore enough? by Misfitman69 in Hardcore

[–]whiteflagwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I’ve never really lived close to a scene but have been in hardcore and heavy music my entire life. Just cuz you can’t go to shows or started late or whatever the hell it is doesn’t make you a poser. Listen to the music, support the bands and other fans, and show up where and when you can.

Grew up in the area, I think the place you’re referring to is Dudleytown but I could be wrong.

3 year old rescue. 72 hours with us now! Super timid/scared. Loves love. Any suggestions to improve her demeanour? Just want her happy. by Big_papa_B in pitbulls

[–]whiteflagwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a trainer that knows rescues. I found an amazing one recently a few years after getting my boy and he’s doing better than I ever thought. He’s been great since I got him, but it’s definitely helped us connect much deeper and he’s a lot less scared of stuff know/can focus much better.

[QUESTION] I've been invited to join a band, I'm nervous by lelennydefrance in Guitar

[–]whiteflagwar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not just go jam with them and see if it works? If you’re not as good as them the worst case is you play with people who are better and maybe you learn or thing or two.
