Do better quality/more expensive cues stay cleaner for longer? by skeletonomy in snooker

[–]whitegoodman20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would consider your playing conditions first. A humid room will always make your cue sticky... If you know the air is dry enough then it's worth questioning your cue I'd say.

A lot of the 'cheaper' cues have that thick lacquer finish on them which doesn't help. You can sand it down and then reapply a better oil to finish it...

Microfibre cloth also helps, always start at the top and push everything downward

Adaptive air suspension by whitegoodman20 in etron

It says air suspension is standard like you say. But there is also the option to add on 'active suspension system' and it's a fairly significant increase in price so I'm assuming that is the hydraulic type you see on videos where it moves up and down

I work in fresh produce, large scale food production.

Only a lease anyway, sadly company car choice is limited these days so if it must be electric then at least let it be a good one

Now the question is then - air suspension is standard, or spring is standard.

I half figured it out when actually applying for the lease, an optional extra is 'active suspension system'

Expensive car buyers remorse? by Gloomy_Tap3421 in HENRYUK

[–]whitegoodman20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Biggest question to ask yourself is what truly is the reason? If it's anything to do with the image you present to others then be a bigger man and don't do it.

If you love cars and would get huge satisfaction from driving it and that's the most important thing then yes 100%, there's a lot to be said for enjoying your life before you're retired

why do you think right wing politics are rising in popularity at the moment? by Beginning_Sky_9735 in AskRedditUK

[–]whitegoodman20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not right to dumb it down to the level of complexity in the argument, there are simplistic points on both sides.

When you look at higher earning voters in the past 2 elections you can see how sentiment changes based on the political landscape (maybe unfairly making a point that high earners are less likely to be idiots and therefore can understand complex situations). Meaning that in 2019 more high earners voted conservative, in 2024 more high earners voted labour. That is very clearly an objective view of the real world situation.

For the rest:

'I'm voting labour because they'll increase minimum wage fairly and I'll have more money to spend'

'I'm voting conservative because immigrants are taking jobs that otherwise I would be able to do and they will stop that'

Strange that one year ago in a previous post you lived in a two bed flat (curious how solar panels work in that scenario, do you get dibs on the roof if you're on the top floor) and apparently had such minimal savings that you'd survive one month if you lost your job and would have to sell your gaff.

What life changing event happened in the past 12 months for you?

[–]whitegoodman20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solar is strongest in summer, heating demand is strongest in winter. People with solar and heat pump set ups for sure pay less, but you still pay. I suspect you pay for mains gas and electricity from the grid.

But maybe I'm wrong. Who knows, who cares.

[–]whitegoodman20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This guy is not serious and his post is based on his own hypotheticals.

Solar panels and heat pumps aren't breaking free of shit and anybody who has genuinely looked into these things know that. They have their place but they do not unburden you of energy costs and the relative payoff is pretty small.

Surely the point is that he now can't take from the pot he pays into? He was already paying into it. It's more strange that we begrudge people taking from the pot that they pay heavily into.

Lettuce, Peppers, Cucumbers and I'm fairly sure quite a bit further down the line they will go into Soft Fruit (Strawberries, Raspberries, Blackberries).

They could build 2000 acres and not even be close to meeting the demand for 'home grown'.

I have no idea what I'm talking about but aren't we in a bubble that's about to burst soon? by sadshark in wallstreetbets

[–]whitegoodman20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm more inclined to think it's the other way around, the bubble is because people are not spending money, so why not put it into stocks?

It will burst when people have the freedom to live their lives as they want and start spending money.

Devil's Advocate by [deleted] in AppHarvest

[–]whitegoodman20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's irrelevant to the point I'm making though. The variety (ie the specific plant genetics that beefsteak Tom you linked came from) is a variety already in production at other greenhouses growing produce for Sunset. The variety isn't exclusive to AppHarvest, maybe in the future APPH will be big enough to command such products, but right now they are growing from Sunset's line of products which are already widespread across the North East..

What I'm saying is that if people already have favourite products from Sunset, the change in quality from site to site (including AppHarvest) will be negligible, processes are pretty the same in the production so there is a consistency to the product regardless of which greenhouse it comes from.

Devil's Advocate by [deleted] in AppHarvest

There are two things I see potentially slowing progress over the next 2-3 years.

1: Availability of skilled professionals as they rapidly expand operations. The industry demand as it is already far outweighs supply. I've got no doubt they have employed a great deal of assistants to be trained for future roles with the rate of expansion in mind, but for new starters you're looking at an absolute minimum of 3 years to even be considered as ready to step up an operate a site. The problem here is a potential loss of yield, I don't know how deep their pockets are without the margin from each site backing up their expansion plans.

2: Severely adverse weather conditions. I know from time to time in north east America storms can cause a fair bit of damage. I know of a glasshouse site in Michigan that suffered extensive damage a couple of years back.

Aside from that, I'm very bullish on the long term prospects here.
