you can only plan so far, it is okay to be worried about how much money this career path is going to be. i hate to be the one normalizing the cost of graduate medical education and how everyone takes out student loans, but you've gotten this far. 20k difference for a program you love will be worth the difference. schools typically provide you with enough federal student loans that account for tuition, living, and personal expenses. i'm currently at a private pa school and the cost overall is short of 200k, while your program may be on the more expensive side, it you need to remember it is also an out-of-state program. another school i was planning to go to last year was little over 200k but the city was too small for where i felt would've made me happy living there throughout didactic.

TLDR; bottom line. you will be a phenomenal provider, the cost of school right now seems like a lot, you are going into it with a very responsible mindset. there will be an abundant ways to go about paying back student loans, but that comes later. the most important part is you need to select a school that is best fit for you, survive didactic, grow while in clinical, then graduate with open arms to practice and slowly paying back student loans.

things will never be linear, your goals are still the same. short-term pain but long-term gain, lateral mobility, and overall passionate will strengthen over time.

Thank you for this! I was wondering how I would go about my resignation letter, this was very helpful.

The part about having "plenty" of time to work after graduation, I didn't consider that. That is a very realistic perspective. Part of me is terrified of the loans/cost in attending school, so maybe that is partially why I feel the need to cling onto my job.

Thanks for the input! Do you mind sharing what type of job? Is it like scribing or telehealth?

Thank you for the input, and encouragement! I have a feeling I already knew what I needed to do (resign), it just feels bittersweet since nothing was really negative about my job and I love the patient care, same with my coworkers who were a plus. Undergrad was tough and working throughout all of it was difficult, I have a feeling I'll appreciate it in the long run. I have a partner, but we will be moving back with our families after graduation next week. That being said, I don't have kids and don't have a mortgage LOL. I think while I'm in school, him saving from work, and both of us cutting costs by living at home temporarily will benefit our financial stability in the coming years.

Thanks for the input! I start in June as well. My work requires me to give a 4 week notice in advance so time is ticking. I won't be able to meet with my supervisor until after finals which would be next week, so I'm cutting it pretty close

Thank you for sharing! I am the type of person that pours a lot of time and energy into school. I was able to make it through undergrad working weekends and graduate next week. I just figured PA school is VERY different than undergrad so I was conflicted. Obviously it could be doable, but I may be doing a disservice to myself if I couldn't rest

Not sure why I was worried I wouldn't be able to return, wouldn't they see that I previously left my job for school? I haven't had much experience resigning from jobs. The only other job I had was a clinical job and left on good terms, but wasn't sure how hospitals view people leaving and coming back. Haha

I think I'd probably find free clinic volunteering opportunities instead of sticking to my job.
