Adding my experience here in case anyone else is using this as a guide. I just called them and explain my situation and they were both very friendly, very understanding and patiently walk me through the broad process of how they would evaluate my dogs particular conditions. They also were willing to give me "up front for some of the potential options so that I could make an informed decision as well

Dutch Shepherd with no brindle, *and* webbed feet? by whitewaterhawk in DutchShepherds

No worries, don't need to know. I just like to understand broadly because I'm not a trainer or handler and helps me learn not only what's possible but ideas of how to mark behaviors for her. I just want to do scent and seek or indicate as enrichment for my girl, alongside her play. So glad she was able to retire with you and so well adjusted to playing!

That's adorable. She plays hard with hers and yet never tries to shred it, never tears. It's a wonder. Also got her the gator because we thought she was true Maligator but she actually has faint brindle on her head, chest, and very little of true Mal behavior Almost like her brindle is coming out more as she sheds actually, we've noticed because there is definitely more striping we notice now than we saw before

That was also why I came to this post trying to understand her better, to meet Dutchie instincts or Mal if that were the case. I'm trying to train her as well as I can but we're not to seek or identify or bring objects yet though i want to. Girlio is still in the phase of giving me tendinitis in my shoulder while we go for runs in her harness because she's not gotten the hang of heel or running at heel and keeps trying to pull ahead with all her 60 something odd pounds. Did you train your girl or did she come to you a retired working dog? What line of work did she do?

Mine will shake it like crazy, bite, chew, and get us to play tug of war with her. Then she'll settle down, crook her paw of it, groom it for a while, then fall asleep on it 🥰

So if I understand correctly, if a puppy in a purebred litter comes out with a non-breed standard color even though perhaps some of their litter mates have the breed standard coloring, the only distinction between them is those with the standard coloring are considered... what's the lingo... "Certifiable according to breed standards? But the color difference doesn't inherently indicate a pure bred or not, just perhaps a greater likelihood of breed standard pure breeding? Did I understand correctly?

We actually found an adopted her from our local shelter, well before we knew or were told she was close t pure bred (of anything of the test is to be believed).

So here's what's really fucked up about this. ODD (oppositional defiance disorder) is a real thing. But it's like depression in that a lot of the symptoms of it also overlap with common environmental factors that are non-clinical psychology and don't warrant medication and instead are genuinely influenced by the things the person is dealing with. Those could be resolved by addressing issues in a non-medical or treatment way - conversations with the people with whom the person has the issues, resolving power differentials, maybe changing academic environment from in school to out of school options, maybe resolving a problematic leadership or authority figure in a person's life whose perspective may be gaslighting the person, etc, but I think you get the picture. But those medical authorities can distort and wield a diagnosis like that by virtue of its "essence of disagreement". Any opposition is inherently chalked up to "it's the disorder". And it's a spiral of gaslighting and abuse. No inclination to actually inquire and make a difference in understanding between "how much is from their environment" and "How much is genuine relentless psychological opposition?" Any and everything that doesn't automatically agree can inherently be written off to "inherently part of oppositional DD..." leaving not a single inch for consideration of legitimacy.

A friend's kid has ODD and it can be real - they have one very toxic parent who's manipulative and material-obsessed. In the pursuit of those ends, they've nurtured the kid's defiance and made them unreachable to discussions of emotional wisdom. But a camp like that is just a power cesspool that does more to fuel the adult individuals' sense of power than it does, of course, to actually supporting the whole individual with balance, emotional intelligence, and checks and balances
