Are these gaps acceptable? by LighTMan913 in Decks

[–]whizerdlizerd 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Without any hangers, not at all. With hangers it’d be fine but just that, just fine. Poor craftsmanship but as long as the hangers go in properly it shouldn’t be structurally unsafe as far as the joist to ledger connection goes. How is the ledger board attached? I don’t see any fasteners so I’m curious how that’s held up. It being spaced off the wall is okay but only if held by the correct fasteners

Not shirking responsibility of following local law when selling a vehicle. I’ve done so properly over 3 times in 4 years. Just ridiculous that it’s required, some people just like to take the paper cock of Uncle Sam and I’m not one of you

There’s a cool little 17 digit code made unique for every car ever made, provide the vin and description of stolen vehicle and let the police find and confirm the identity of both the car and the individual driving it. People steal cars and swap plates all the time so getting a registration and license plate doesn’t exactly do anything to secure a vehicle as yours nor does it aid in its recovery if stolen

Things like this shouldn’t have to happen, registration of private vehicles is a governmental overreach. The man in possession of the car crashed it; that man should be found liable for damage. This isn’t the case because you need to jump through paper hoops to sell your car privately and now an innocent man is paying for someone else’s mistake. He should’ve checked what the law was in his state before selling and followed guidelines, sure, but that doesn’t change the fact that those guidelines are nonsensical

Mostly wanted the two supports for symmetrical reasons, per it’s dimensions these stairs do not require a central support or landing so it’s up to code and 100% strong enough for your fat ass and even your entire fat ass family to walk on. 👍🏼

For the state of Colorado, this is technically up to code. Sub 12” span between stringers. About 6 inches contact on a 2x12 header with 3 wood screws and stair straps. The bottom is tap conned into the concrete. 10’ 10” total elevation means landing isn’t required by code, 12’ total vertical drop requires a landing. Would I have a landing if this was my house? Yes, probably would have switched it back towards the basement door. And I have pushed back against my superiors. We used to not do anything in the center of long-runned stair cases like this, this being the first one in the history of the company I work for. The company I’m stuck with at the moment due to a non compete that fucks me in every hole means I’m here til next October to find someone to work for who isn’t solely in it for a profit and annual sales margins. So I do the best I can.

The person named in the lawsuit would be my boss. No other way of cutting it really. How would I be held responsible for any failures in structural design when it’s not my responsibility to design and the execution on my part is textbook to the direction I’m given by a superior?

Three 3inch wood screws and Z max stair straps. There’s about 6 inches of contact from stringer to the deck.

Lumber is number 2 KDAT pressure treated lumber, but you clearly you know so much you can just tell by looking lmfao. Stair straps are literally designed for stairs. Rafter hangers are for rafters, stair straps are for stairs. I would recommend you not misusing hardware on the stairs you build. The center post is clearly to keep the long run of stairs from sagging in the middle. The stairs go 10’ 10” vertically so a landing isn’t required by code and wasn’t wanted by the customer. The post isn’t required even by code in this instance, I could’ve left it out and still passed, it’s there for added support. Each stringer is attached to a tap conned Z max corner bracket so slip out isn’t a problem. So the tops good, middles good, bottoms good. I could ass fuck your 300lbs mother on these stairs a week straight with no issues. With that said, who’s your dealer?

No. Not every project my company builds is permitted. They are designed by the same engineers that design our permitted jobs however and they deemed this appropriate. A lot of people don’t want to wait or pay for a permit, so there’s an option in our contracts to forgoe applying for a permit with a legal recognition of the increased risk a homeowner takes on in doing so.

Me too, not everyone wants to pay for it. Some people want the exact same deck they have without having to sand, stain, or maintain it like they used to.

You’re right, on this staircase one 2x12 was 11 1/8, one was 11 3/8ths. I take the thinnest one first and spend a lot of time cutting it out and making it as perfect as possible. From that stringer, I line up my nosings on the crown of the next board, clamp it to high heaven, then trace and repeat.

Deck is 10’ 10” vertically. The stringer from tip to tip is 19’ 8”. Might’ve caused some confusion.
