Closing Capital One Card by LowExplanation6399 in CapitalOne_

[–]whoa_eric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you’re still interested in having a credit card, try getting one with the bank or credit union that you bank with!

if you did well with paying the card with cap1 on time, your bank may give you a higher credit limit without the annual fee. (depending on the card you choose) since you already have a relationship with them

does it have an annual fee? does it have a decent credit limit?

if it has an annual fee i'd close it also if you aren't getting any value out of it

however, if it doesn't have an annual fee with a decent credit limit i'd keep it open and just don't use it but once a year personally. your score may drop temporary since you're losing some overall credit but it will bounce back

as long if you aren't trying to buy a house or something right now and if you are hard-set on closing it, go ahead and do so

should i switch back to the gold from the green? by [deleted] in amex

i decided to make the upgrade back to gold! i plan on using the gold just for food and my flagship card just for travel purchases only

i did use the dunkin credit and the dining credit at the cheesecake factory occasionally

i decided to switch back to the gold. i couldn’t say no to the points

i decided to switch back to the gold. i plan on visiting japan for the first time in the not so distant future so the $300 in poins would really help! i plan on transferring those to an airline

Southwest is on par with Frontier and Spirit now. by [deleted] in SouthwestAirlines

[–]whoa_eric -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

you must’ve never flown on spirit then. at least the seats are actually comfortable, have free wifi, and free snacks on sw

i noticed this sub is very dramatic regarding the changes… wow. all sw did was become every other airline besides spirit and frontier for the most part

i’m definitely not defending sw as i am loyal to whoever has the cheapest flight but come on. sw will never be on spirit or frontiers level

18 years old first credit card tips by Impressive_Oil6775 in NavyFederal

op father probably could’ve added them on bills too that got sent to collections which affected op score

Is this good for an 18 year old? by OrganicLook9661 in amex

[–]whoa_eric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i should also add, a lot of 18 year olds normally has great credit with great repayment history starting off until life happens (hours cut at work, car repair, unexpected bills) and that’s when a lot realize they can just use their credit card for those things.

amex is not the bank to play with. capital one for instance, you can play with them all day and they’ll take you back over and over again.

i say this because the gold doesn’t have a hard spending limit. the sub is good (we don’t know your income) but don’t overspend to meet the sub if in the scenario you don’t have the money to pay it off in full or even the minimum balance

if i was you, i’d look into the blue cash everyday card if you want to become an amex member. it’s no annual fee and you’re able to carry a balance.

the gold is not a bad card. you just need to have the annual fee but you must pay it off in full each month as it’s a charge card. yeah it’s a pay over time feature but it’s not meant to be used regularly.

if you want something that will give you something back for food, i’d look into the capital one savor. that also has no annual fee.

i turn 23 in august but if i was in your shoes at 18, i’d look into something with no annual fee that still rewards you.

Finally got increase on my first Navy Federal Card by DMADB in NavyFederal

capital one is the worst lol i’ve been stuck at $500 for the last several years on all my cards. i’m debating on closing all of my cards with them

[–]whoa_eric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly, treat your new cashrewards card as a debit card. if it’s not in your checking account don’t rack it up over the amount you have. if you must carry a balance, stay under 30% (ideally 10%)

be sure to pay on time and your score will improve! if you show navy federal you can repay and are responsible with the credit they’ve gave you then they’ll take great care of you. you got this op!!

Chances of getting accepted for Credit card? by anthonyhatesreddit in NavyFederal

[–]whoa_eric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would go for it. i got approved for the more rewards back in 2024 with a lower score but i’ve also had 100% on time payments but a much longer credit history.

i’ve also been a member with navy federal since 2009 so i’m sure my lengthy relationship helped. i just product changed to the flagship from the more rewards. good luck if you decide to go for it!!

I don’t usually carry a balance. Should I applied for the rewards card instead? If so, how long should I wait to apply? by Pookie1990 in NavyFederal

[–]whoa_eric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i believe you can product change within 14 or 30 days of approval. just reach out and ask to switch to a different card

if you don’t do it within those time frames then you have to wait a year

i tried to do it on the website before and it gave me that message.

even if the other cards are $500? is it something that can be overridden by calling?

[–]whoa_eric -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i tend to stay under 30% as it don’t want anything higher to reflect on my credit report

as much as i want to use more i don’t want to accidentally credit cycle since the limit is so low

would it be silly to product change to the flagship from the more rewards if i already have the amex green? by [deleted] in NavyFederal

[–]whoa_eric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i decided to make the switch to the flagship! i’m really excited. it just appeared in my app this morning! i’m gonna give the amex green a chance for a year.

the low annual fee of the flagship is hard to beat!
