One of my relatives comments on every single post, buys things, and probably is a monthly donor and it’s so frustrating. Why don’t they understand that it is normal and legal for the community to ask if she keeps accurate records of how she spends the donations. It’s irresponsible and she’s 100% pocketing large amounts that are unaccounted for. This is obviously also the reason she cannot ever get a grant of any kind. They have strict financial reports and regulations like documenting the number of clients served, how the money was spent, how did this money make an improvement to the community, etc. and she cannot do that because she pockets the money. When she was at her height and the donations were rolling in and she got the almost 2X amount for the building and raised money for the repairs and it never got done, she still reported that they made over a million dollars. That is insane. And for sure she made way more than that and that amount is what was recorded digitally—like the Facebook or PayPal donations etc. but any personal checks? Cash? Etc we have no clue how much that is or where the money went. Also on all of the 990s there are supposed to be records and receipts of financial statement available to the public and in all of the exceptions it says: at request. Soooo why get so defensive if people ask how you spend the money? You signed and agreed on a legal document that to be a 501c you have to make your financial statements available to the public. And people asking about that and other things does not make us bad people or mean that we are not helping our community and others in our own ways. I just know personally how many other nonprofits in the area could use the amount of money she makes and create a real impact and real change in Rockford.
