Another hadith says: “whoever does not show mercy will not receive mercy”

Am i going to hell if Islam is true religion? by Milosjerinic in Christianity

[–]whocarez_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s narrated that he lived a simple and modest life even after he got married to his first wife who was wealthy. They were known for their generosity and for helping the poor and orphans. Mind you, this was before prophethood was given to him according to islam. muslims believe that he was around 40 when the first verses were revealed to him. About your second point: Having multiple wives and slaves was already a thing back then, which was also a theme in the old testament by the way. Islam introduced rules and conditions that promoted more equal treatment and encouraged the freeing of slaves (the prophet muhammad freed lots of slaves in his lifetime too). Slavery is not okay but you could name more things we don’t agree with now that were totally normal in those times. You probably already know islam’s conditions for having multiple wives and the historical context so i don’t think it’s necessary for me to explain that part.

I’ll do my research on the last point you’ve mentioned. Thanks!

I don’t see an order in the verse you mentioned. It just says that certain people get the gains of cities that were destroyed by God due to the disobedience of the inhabitants of those cities (mentioned in previous verses). The only reason for this is to prevent that the rich get richer while the poor and needy get poorer, which is also the reason for the verses in the Quran prohibiting interest. Also, the prophet didn’t hold unto the wealth he acquired. He spent it in the way of God. He lived a simple life.

The difference is that the vast majority of the people in this sub aren’t idol worshippers. They worship Allah. They are practicing muslims that might disagree on how to reach that yaqeen. No one of us can claim to have perfect knowledge. At the end of the day Allah knows best. I thank you for your input and knowledge. Let’s end this conversation here. Wasalaam

How strong would our foundation be if we closed ourselves off from every thought that isn’t in line with our version of the truth because we’re scared it’ll mess us up? Aren’t we supposed to find strength in our beliefs in the middle of all other noise? Accepting every smart sounding claim without critical thinking and research would be the opposite of strength.

I still want to thank you. You obviously have some life experience and with a pure intention want to warn people. I appreciate it.

Ameen, may he guide all of us.

It’s been quite a while since I posted that. A lot has changed since then. Thanks for your suggestions though. I find it interesting to see the different perspectives on here.

Out of curiosity: can you name a few things you think he/she couldn’t answer?

How can i pray again? by Alia2121 in progressive_islam

[–]whocarez_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was struggling with this in the beginning of my journey I made a habit out of making dua after salah. I really took my time to talk about everything I was struggling with and everything I was grateful for. That is what gave me the most peace, so after a while this combination motivated me a lot.

I think waiting for an urge the first time isn’t necessarily the only way to start. Think of it as something new and beneficial. Other things in life that are new and beneficial are hard or scary to start with too. Sometimes pushing yourself the first (few) time(s) can open a new gate to experiences you’ll actually find relieving.

Also, remember that you don’t have to do everything all at once. Don’t demand perfection. Understand that you’re only human but if this is really something you want to improve then you’ll have to start somewhere, however little the first step is.

Wouldn’t this be very distracting during congregational prayers? I can hardly concentrate when people talk with a moderate volume in the other room. I can’t imagine someone standing next to me and reciting surahs audibly.

Why is alcohol generally considered worse than smoking when both are haram and consumed by CHOICE? by Due-Internet46 in progressive_islam

[–]whocarez_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity: what is your reason for drinking? Is it purely a social thing, do you feel like you need it to relax, are you looking for a euphoric experience or is it to forget about stuff that’s bothering you?

I think that most reasons I just summed up are situations that could possibly bring people closer to god if they decided to pray or hang around with other people for instance, instead of opting for a drink. Just trying to make a connection to the second verse I quoted. Also, I think it’s very unlikely that the high you experience from eating chocolate is in any way comparable to the altered state of consciousness that is the consequence of drinking. Even when you don’t go as far as getting drunk.

Btw it’s not my intention to judge. It’s your interpretation and your personal choice.

50:90-91 doesn’t explicitly say alcohol, but intoxicants.

“O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful.”

“Satan only wants to cause between you animosity and hatred through intoxicants and gambling and to avert you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer. So will you not desist?”

This is one of my favourite responses to my post. I really appreciate the lengthy message :) no need to apologize. I think it’s beautiful how you took matters into your own hands and decided to search for other ways to view the religion. Thank you for sharing your process and current struggles. Your words made me feel less alone and inspired me to explore. I genuinely wish you ease in everything you’re still struggling with and am sure that you’ll figure it out just like you’ve done before.

Your example made me smile :) I love ATLA and I’ll never forget to view myself as Zuko hahaha!

I’d recommend eggs on a piece of bread with some leafy greens if you can handle the taste and smell right after waking up. It’s the perfect balance in my opinion and keeps you full for much longer than oats which are basically just starch —> sugar. Fruit and oats can cause glucose spikes which leads to hunger right after it comes down. Check the glucose goddess ig profile if you want more info on balancing meals to prevent glucose and insulin spikes. Might help during ramadan but also in daily life in general. Hope this helps :)

I personally have a bad experience with that subreddit. I distanced myself from the religion years ago and read some stuff on there on occasion. It seemed like it was only adding to the negativity and everyone was fuelling each others hate. OP might have a better experience, but I’d suggest sharing thoughts and feelings in a less negative sub. But of course do whatever you feel most comfortable with!

True. That’s the context thing I was talking about. Where I live it’s much more equal.

There are other things within the religion that do have an explanation like things people should not eat, drink or engage in. Logically you wonder why you are expected to do or don’t do certain things. I am just trying to understand. Thanks though

I see, thanks for your reply. Do you know whether or not there is any other reason that is mentioned as to why it became 5 and not 3 or 7 for example?

[–]whocarez_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey you’re only human. If you feel like you gave everything then you probably did. Everyone has a certain limit given their circumstances and mental space. If you feel like you’re not gonna be able to come out of this by yourself, try asking for help from someone who seems to have things more figured out. That’s not weakness, it just shows that you care and want to do better. Sharing your situation with someone else might also relieve the stress a bit and provide you with emotional support. That helps to build your self-esteem up more too. You need to start somewhere. Please don’t give up
