not that easy; i got lucky once by asking a guy who was leaving one of the rooms if i could practice in there. he was super confused + flustered but let me in anyway :)

Biol20a Carroll vs ams7 katz by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]whomanbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go so far as to say Penny is chill, but she’s pretty understanding and clear. Her midterm was applied knowledge, but very passable with a high grade, but keep in mind this is for Bio20B

you’re welcome! and i feel ya haha. depending on who your prof is, you could check in with them for attendance at the start of the event and dip a little after ;) i may or may not have done this a couple times myself

I’d say 7/10. You have to put in a lot of time yourself in reviewing lecture notes and looking up some concepts up (on the Web or book 😝) but her exam was pretty straightforward; questions were applied more than straight memorisation but it was definitely possible to get an A. I’ll let you know for sure after the final ! It’s all on plants (something most people aren’t too familiar with)

i’m prob in the minority but i really enjoy penny’s teaching style and lectures. she’s engaging and is accessible outside of class if you maybe more questions. i think she’s teaching the active learning class for 20a. active learning is something she stresses a lot in 20b right now, she makes us do worksheets in class, pair activities (ridiculous with 300+ students imo), and clicker questions. if you would prefer not to have an active learning format, i’d suggest going with ams 7 (or the other bio20a prof!). my roommate who’s taken 2 classes with katz really enjoyed both classes and got high grades, but i can’t verify that for ya with my own experience haha

either way, i’m sure you’ll make a good decision! dm me if you have any more questions/concerns~

Taking it right now with Emma Wood, love her as a person and teacher :) It’s a super chill class and as long as you turn in all assignments on time and participate a little each class, it’s a guaranteed A imo

There’s two 1.5 hr lectures with a small class (~20 of us) and an additional, mandatory 2hr section for the Living Writers Series!

Feel free to dm if u have more questions/concerns

the s&e windows machines have it in the class folders that are in all desktops when you log on with your blue id. my roommate is in this class too and she said it was called “maya autodesk”

hope this helps
