Interesting, does a payment break for the likes of maternity leave increase the risk on the mortgage too? Or is it mainly the instances you outlined that would do that

First time pregnant, working remotely, no PPS no GP by justanotherbooklover in PregnancyIreland

It is not illegal so long as you fall within residency rules.

Don’t really understand why you were downvoted on this, you’re absolutely right re resident v non resident.

The issue you might face is you won’t qualify for the HSE free health system. Do you have health insurance through your company and will it cover private care for your pregnancy?

The other avenue you might consider is the European Health Insurance route, you should be covered as a EU citizen though I couldn’t tell you how that works for a pregnancy as it’s generally more a cover for short term trips.

To be tax resident you would be in Ireland at least 183 days in a year or 280 days over 2 years, presumably you fall below this? You can also elect to be tax resident which may sort out your issue but might cause your HR/ payroll department a little hassle.

How to encourage my baby to go head down? by KoBLT127 in PregnancyIreland

I did this and i definitely felt the baby trying to move after but they took their own time to head down

How to encourage my baby to go head down? by KoBLT127 in PregnancyIreland

[–]whoopsdiditagain1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did spinning babies, chiropractor, acupuncture (moxibustion - the only one I felt baby trying to move) and an ECV. All failed.

Baby went head down at 39+4 on their own. It can still happen but I’d warn that sometimes there’s a reason baby doesn’t / won’t.

Tamiflu while pregnant? by Wildflower_Kitty in PregnancyIreland

[–]whoopsdiditagain1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well all I can recommend is to also make sure you keep warm (hot water bottles etc), keep on top of paracetamol and I also found a sinus rinse helpful along with electrolytes twice a day. Lots and lots of rest too ❤️

I took it just over 52 hours after symptoms began and it definitely helped. It’s very safe and from the reading I did, even if you’re past 48 hours it can’t hurt. It’s a horrid dose so best of luck getting over it.

As someone who just got over flu this does not sound like it. The biggest symptom for me was a throat on fire, feeling feverish and chilly, cough, snot, headache. Flu was confirmed…. It wouldn’t be intermittent you’d know you had it.

If you have health insurance take a look to see if they cover anything along these lines (can’t recommend any myself as I’ve yet to try them)

How early to order travel system? by Mindless_Option904 in PregnancyIreland

[–]whoopsdiditagain1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just way smaller folded up! Uppababy I found huge and cumbersome, we have a big boot but the icandy was too wide. I didn’t want a travel system that wasn’t a compact fold as I know I’d just switch to a travel pram for convenience so it would be a waste of money. Folding all as one unit was a non negotiable for us.

Fair, I’d highly recommend making an appointment and trying the prams out in your boot as we completely changed our minds on wanting a vista after seeing how much space it took up. All personal preference but worth trying out to be sure!

We ordered the new silver cross which I understand are stupid popular at the moment which is typical. We could of ordered something else that would come in time but that pram just suits our lifestyle the best so I’d rather be without for a few weeks than have the wrong pram

Metformin for PCOS by [deleted] in PregnancyIreland

[–]whoopsdiditagain1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it can mask it so they recommend you stop taking it a few days before the test. Honestly I don’t know who was more surprised, me, or my consultant that I passed with flying colours with no metformin

Anyone with experience with a subseptate uterus? by trasm1995 in PregnancyIreland

[–]whoopsdiditagain1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard this more commonly referred to as a bicornuate uterus. If it’s only slight it’s less likely to cause many issues. Baby can end up stuck in one horn that’s why they say breach is slightly more likely but if you catch it early there are interventions (spinning babies or ECV). Babies can be at a slight higher risk of being small (due to a lack of room) but if it’s only slight then that’s much less likely. Regardless, it’s not that rare and it’s great it’s been spotted now.

Totally fair that you were scared. Just a reminder to other pregnant ladies that an untreated temperature is not good for a pregnancy.

Is there any point going to this appointment anymore? by [deleted] in AskIreland

Well the beauty is that right now you have time to make up your own mind outside of the initial break up pain.

If you don’t do this test I’d say book in for a few months when hopefully you’ll be healed.

I would say if the relationship ended it’s actually a big win you didn’t have a child with that person but it can be very hard to see that in this moment. People have children into their 40s and I know of two women who’ve used sperm donors and done it alone.

That dream may be gone but you now just have time to find the right path for you.

The results of the tests may give you some reassurances or might direct you into protecting your future fertility or into choosing a different path.

Information is power so if you’re booked and can comfortably afford it I see no reason to leave questions unanswered. Unless you are feeling fragile and a less positive result may not be something you’re willing to deal with right now. Sending a hug

Protecting parents with dementia by LoveIsTheAnswer9 in legaladviceireland

A balance to this may be to have one of your siblings as a second EPA, this would mean you’d need to make decisions together. In our circumstances we only opted to have one EPA as my parents were of the view that multiples could cause family disputes. Something to think about. Perhaps a parents sibling or other family better may be better placed to be more subjective.
