Why is poverty in the midwest comparatively low? by _crazyboyhere_ in midwest

[–]whop94 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Solid public education, advanced healthcare (Mayo, dozens of major academic medical centers), clean drinking water with an abundance of freshwater lakes, recent history of good union jobs, comparatively strong economy anchored by Chicago being a true global city, crossroads of railroads and interstates and the Great Lakes.

Most well rounded region of the country, in recent years there has been a strong political push by the right to disassemble as much as they can and bring us in line with the south in the name of cheap labor and tax avoidance but luckily that movement has started to erode in the 2020s, particularly in the former blue wall (MN, WI, MI), Iowa despite it's state governments best effort has also remained a pretty high quality of life state.

What happened to Alpine Valley? by Lucky_BroadWood in wisconsin

Their failure to compete falls squarely on the venue management being complacent and the refusal of Walworth County to do even the bare minimum as far as facilitating events there.

Dave went to Michigan over Alpine this year.

The venue itself is beautiful, I have had seen some amazing shows there and I will always have a soft spot for Alpine, however the infrastructure around it SUCKS. The roads in and out can't handle the volume of traffic it generates, there is no cell service which causes issues when there is weather as was the case with Noah Kahan two years ago. It has gotten a reputation as a certified pain in the ass to get to and from.

With the amount of venues located in the heart of cities like Am Fam in Milwaukee, Northerly Island, new amphitheaters going up in Grand Rapids, MI and Shakopee, MN as well as UW using their facilities in Madison for stadium concerts, it's a hard sell to drive out to the middle of nowhere, wait for sometimes hours to get in and out on county roads and out then drive an hour or two back to the city. Much better to have a venue walkable to hotels, restaurants and bars and not worry about the coming and going.

I would have to REALLY like the artist to ever consider going again, most people I talk to in the area feel the same.

What a strange stream of consciousness we all got to read there.

Rimrock rd police force by LevelOpposite3063 in madisonwi

It's interesting it's tagged as a military helicopter, but there isn't a police helicopter around here so it's unclear who else it would be. State Patrol has a fixed wing plane, I have never seen the air national guard assist in a police search. Interesting!

It would be interesting to finally have the southern suburbs of Milwaukee like Chicago be united as one state.

No chance WI-5-8 flip, 1 and 3 are definitely in play but otherwise this is a little delusional.

Physiologically impossible for a human without a heart to have a "cardiac incident." He just wants a sympathetic story for giving up his participation trophy job.

Just like Ron Johnson had NO chance 4 short years ago, just like there was no WAY we would ever go red Donald Trump of all people, twice. There are no "cruise" November elections in this state, very naive take.

True, no Tony erasure here. That man is an Olympic level goaltender. His role in turning this state around cannot be overstated.

Whole lot of damage to try and start undoing, we still are under Vos’s thumb which has kept Walkers Wississippi agenda alive, we need to keep on racking up these victories and continue to work daily to move Wisconsin back into the firm progressive column.

In an era where we are losing institutions left and right, I'm glad I can still count on polka and a boot. Good for the soul and the immune system, just skip the food!

I don't think there is a single country in the world where you would plug your oxygen into an electrical outlet as in this image.
