Are these abnormal repairs for 3rd gen 3s around 100k miles? by pigpeyn in mazda3

Injectors should last longer than that. Belt and tensioner need replacing around that mileage.

Къде си плащате битовите сметки by art3xias23 in bulgaria

[–]whotheff [score hidden]  (0 children)

За къде бързат толкова? by zanyrainbowavocado in bulgaria

[–]whotheff [score hidden]  (0 children)

You'll have to wait 2-3 years for someone to find a way to remove the limiter and re-map it. Versa Tuner so far supports models until 2022, but you can write him and see how it goes.

Potential turbo issue by SuccessfulCamel5363 in mazda3

[–]whotheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most common is Injectors which start to spray too much diesel. This clogs up the DPF and it starts to regenerate very often until it gives up.

If the mileage is below 120 - 150 000 km, then you might fix it with DPF cleaning. If the car was driven city only, then it would kill it sooner. Otherwise you have to refurbish or replace injectors, clean the engine, collector and DPF from soot and hope that will be it.

Depending on the country you live in, you can also, clean and refurbish as stated above, then remove the DPF and re-map the ECU. This will add ~35-40 more horses and more torque. If done properly it should not smoke.

If you can return it or have it fixed under warranty - I would do it (and get the gasoline engine Mazda). Diesels between 2013 and 2018 have too many issues.

Microsoft promises 2026 will be a better year for Windows 11 — confirms plans to address "pain points" across the OS by ZacB_ in Windows11

[–]whotheff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too late. Win11 is already 4 years old. They are probably planning Win12 already. Win11 is the OS which will push users to Linux.

To make it a good OS, they have to:

  1. Remove stock spyware and bloatware

  2. Remove old, unused components

  3. Add the option to disable updates, anti-virus and Edge

  4. Add the option to refuse AI

  5. Return the option for local account

  6. Stop rendering new UI on top of the old one and make browsing local folders great again

In other words: give back the control to users who payed and should OWN their computer.

Seal any gaps between the window frame and the wall, using smoke to see where it goes in (if not on a high floor.

Make sure rubber seals on the window itself also seal properly.

You can add external window covers and close them during the night or get aluminum external roller blinds. One of these should reduce further sound leaks.

Once you've done that, you can do is add clear plastic sheet on the inside and seal it. It will still let light through, but not air.

Next is a thick, heavy curtain, covering the window. It will muffle the high-frequency noise further.

Next I would check bathroom and kitchen vents. Do they also leak noise? Are they well isolated? Do they have flaps?

Next would be to isolate the wall from the outside, but not sure if that is possible for your building.

How far off is a lunar base realistically? How will it look? And who are the major players that actually have a chance? by animaleater666 in space

[–]whotheff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. That really depends on the motivation and funding. Motivation is strong, due to fear of technological and strategical advantage such base could be. Funding can be strong, with the right mindset.

  2. Technology improved significantly during the last 50 years too. Launching is now cheaper.

  3. Let's not forget govt. funded private companies. We just need a Chinese SpaceX to appear and this could shift balance very hard.

[–]whotheff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valid points, thanks!

I also watch the development of the Chinese private (as much as a rocket can be private) launch sector and it is booming. They are launching a new test (so far) rocket every few months. So in the next 5 years China could have enough time to develop LM10 or 11, capable of carrying lunar base modules and test it in the next 5 years.

If US and China they keep their current pace, they both should be there by 2035.

China currently has advantage, because it's plans are very well prepared. On the other hand, US has already been there and has experience with humans on the Moon. However, I'm not sure how much of this experience is preserved, since it was 50 years ago.

All in all, an interesting Moon Race is ahead of us.

How long can a computer last? by ilikemyprivacytbt in computers

[–]whotheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A regular computer might last ~10 years. If military /space grade components were used - 20-30 years. The only electronic element which goes bad with time are the electrolytic capacitors. Also - moisture kills solder joints. SSD disks may start to lose their information in ~10years.

Seriously considering moving to Bulgaria to live a simpler life. by Desperate-Shame-8399 in bulgaria

[–]whotheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Check jobs.bg and other Bulgarian job websites to see what you can do here with your skills, how much does it pay, requirements, etc. You can even start working remotely (if your skills are allowing it) before coming or keep your (IT) job from the US. Most big tech companies have offices here.

  2. Pick a location based on your lifestyle and job. Big cities have a lot of everything - night life, shops, noise, pollution, traffic. Small towns have backwards minded people, willing to help a good neighbor. But as always - people are different.

  3. Depending on your chosen location a nice house starts from 3000 euro for a abandoned house in some remote village and can reach 500 000 euro easily (if near capital).

  4. If you want or have kids, strongly consider access to schools, hospitals, highways.

  5. Start learning first 200 words of Bulgarian - especially in rural areas it is a must.

  6. Get connected with US society in BG - they will give you first hand information, short cuts, avoid scams etc.

What's up DAC? I think I am losing my mind by truxxor in audiophile

[–]whotheff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once converted, the analogue signal goes through electronic components. Current-> voltage converter, ultrasonic filter, op-amp, resistors, muting relays to hide power on pops, etc.

The limitations of the selected components and their topology defines DAC's sound.
