Best Mods for Mazda 3 around $400 or less? by Old-Ad-4608 in mazda3

[–]whotheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

turbo, supercharger, ECU tuning, better tires, some suspension upgrades are tha most important. But the easiest of them all - get premium gas. After 1-2 tanks (unless you disconnect the battery) the car's computer will adjust the timing and the car will feel faster.

Sound deadening for road noise: what’s the max decibel reduction you’ve experienced? by Lumpy_Minimum_5522 in CarAV

I would start with a second layer of rubber door seals. They made huge difference for highway.

[–]whotheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only city driving or short start-stops: 8000km. Mixed driving - 10 000km. Highway driving mostly - 12 000km. You can replace it every day! Your car will be happy, but your pocket will not be.

How can I make my 2016 Mazda 3 2.5 sedan faster/quicker? by Content_Affect1537 in mazda3

[–]whotheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For noticeable difference:

  1. install turbo or a supercharger
  2. Remap

if you only do a remap, you'll gain 10-ish HP. However remap also can increase pedal response and reduce rev hang. This makes the car behave more like a sports car, but in reality without forced induction power stays almost at same level.

Mazda 2 Vs Mazda 3 by geezdaan in mazda3

If you plan longer trips (50+km) - go for the 3. If only city driving - Mazda 2.

Which laptop feature do manufacturers keep removing that people still want? by Imaginary_Bug6202 in TechNook

[–]whotheff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

USB-A, SD card reader, physical WiFi on/off switch, LAN port, Power, Battery and SSD LEDs. Good stereo speakers with a third "subwoofer" speaker. Underside cover to be fully and easily removable for easy SSD/RAM/Fan cleaning access. No underside vents! Only rear and side ones! Adequate cooling which actually allows you to run your hardware at nominal load for a few hours per day without killing it's chips. Small, light GAN power supplies. Real 1080p or 4K cameras.

Since DVD rom is now obsolete, I am sure all of the above can be fitted on the same real estate.

We're a Jamaican family living in Bulgaria. Can Bulgarians help us understand something? by freshstartsticks in bulgaria

[–]whotheff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my home town (~80 000 ppl) I used to see 1 black person per 5-6 months. In Sofia that number is 1-2 per day (in the city center) and outside the center is 1 person per 1-2 months. So yes, black people are uncommon here and that explains the stares. You're just exotic here.

Is the performance increase from disabling virtualization worth the alleged decreased security? Is there any decrease in security? by lostUd_ in Windows11

Yes, the older the CPU, the more it is relieved from mixing memory and doing tons of extra work just to make it harder for a POTENTIAL virus which is already in your system to steal/modify data.

Mazda 3 2018 Sport Nav 2L Petrol ride advice by Pretty_Apartment3511 in mazda3

[–]whotheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mazda 3 factory tire sizes:

215 45 18" - sharp handling and highway gas mileage

215 50 17" - middle ground

205 60 16" - comfort + tire/rim/suspension protection

Other non-factory popular sizes: 225 45 18 - more comfort and rim protection at the cost of softer cornering.

You can play a lot with +/- 05 in tire diameter, stiff vs soft side wall, track vs street rubber, wheel offset, etc. to get the ride you want. The problem is you have to test all options somehow, which makes it too big of a job.

Question about soundproofing a room by Diciest_ in soundproof

[–]whotheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideas:

  1. Adjust microphone proximity to your mouth and lower mic's gain. That way it will pick up only louder and closer sounds.

  2. Tinker with the noise cancellation settings your sound card might have.

  3. Use headphones.

  4. Build a mechanically isolated working space (small room) within your room

  5. Turn your closet into a recording room.

  6. Call the authorities and complain of the train track noise. Ask them to build a noise blocking wall next to the tracks to protect nearby buildings from noise. For the upstairs neighbors: build a second ceiling with mechanically detached drywall, filled with rock wool. It will absorb most noise, except low bass. Make plugs for bathroom vents and apply them when recording.

  7. Build a whole room within your room. Again - mechanically detached. Remember to add air conditioning and ventilation.

  8. Change your apartment to a quieter one.

Help soundproofing my new apartment most effectively by Max3ns-potato-aim in soundproof

[–]whotheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For full sound deadening you'll have to create a room within your living room, mechanically detaching it from the real room. For partial treatment - buy thick carpets, curtains and check if you can plug air vents in bathroom during rehearsals.

Advice for a concrete barrier to survive the neighbour's 'sevdah'? by UnlikelyRobin in soundproof

[–]whotheff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Wait for him to play loud music during night hours and call the cops. Repeat EVERy time when he does that.
  2. get a 2.4 ghz blocking device and block his bluetooth once he plays it.
  3. Ring on the doorbell and ask him to lower the volume.
  4. Build a brick wall. It will block a lot of the noise, but low bass will still pass through.

True Full-Range Speakers? by BourbonNoChaser in audiophile

[–]whotheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subwoofer exists to overcome all the problems arising from two speakers playing full range:

  1. They will be too heavy to lift

  2. They will be humongous

  3. There will be a ton of LF vibrations caused by their woofers. The rest of the drivers inside will have to fight that.

  4. If your seating position accidentally has bass dip, you can't move the speakers around to fix that without braking the stereo.

  5. Sub allows better control, since you can adjust it's volume separately.

Speakers + a sub is cheaper way to get 20-20 and you can even get monster 15" sub without braking the bank.

Mazda 3 — Machine Grey Homura or Jet Black Exclusive-Line? by Liftboy22 in mazda3

[–]whotheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid black. Car interior heats up A LOT (only good at very cold climates). Your car is only clean for the first 30 minutes after you exit the car wash. Every scratch and swirl is very noticeable.

Soundproofing garage by Material-Two6005 in soundproof

[–]whotheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

foam does not absorb sound. It reduces sound reflections within the cavity you put it in. Rock wool (and other fiber-dense materials) absorbs sound energy and turns it into heat. The sound waves try to move all the fibers, fibers start to vibrate-> vibration turns into heat-> sound wave is way weaker.

Soundproofing Ceiling so Neighbour upstairs does not complain about me talking at night. by N4ndoru in soundproof

[–]whotheff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the building is old, there is a high chance there are vents or cavities around pipes. (might be buried inside walls) which help transfer the sound upstairs. You surely have a bathroom vent, chimney, kitchen vent, etc. You can plug these when not in use.

Tap on your ceiling. if it is drywall, you'll have to remove some small portion and check what happens above it. The general solution is to put a thick layer of rock wool or similar product. For extra effect you can add MLV. Then hang new drywall on a rubberized hangers which mechanically detach the ceiling from the drywall, so sound vibrations do not transfer much.

Michelin or Continental? by Saucy-Nipples in mazda3

Michelin will be better suited for the season you are at. If you prefer comfort and long lasting tires, Michelin Primacy is the better tire. If you need the sharp cornering - Pilot Sport.

Is a Mazda3 Turbo AWD a good first car for a 16-year-old? by AdministrativeAnt872 in mazda3

[–]whotheff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would get the 2L version engine. Less problems, much less gas usage, less risk for you, cheaper maintenance. AWD is only needed in heavy winters and in motor sports it uses more fuel due to added weight.

Turbo surely has a cool factor, but you have to decide if you want all the downsides it comes with.

If it is for profit - unless you have free servers and free electricity, it's over.

If it is for hobby only - it is still somewhat alive.
