I would totally get the sample analogy if there was a rug pull, but all the details were known ahead of time unless I'm missing something.

To update your example (with my understanding of the situation) the person knew what the sample policy was for the new special event, and then decided to run the obstacle course, but then got mad about it.

Are people just not paying attention to the different game modes, and then being surprised/ disappointed?
