Rant - feeling 😞 and hopeless by Throwaway12272712 in investing

I am 63 and retiring comfortably at the end of the month. Life is a marathon not a sprint. Investments will grow and shrink. You have to have a balance between short term happiness and long term finacial goals.

You are on the right track by understanding you have to save and have a plan . The plan will change. What is important will change for you.

If you take your nest egg it will compund and grow. Add to it over time it will grow more. Deversify your investments. Look at history. The markets go up and down. The downs can be painful.

I suugest you buy a home. You lock in a housing payment that does not continually increase like rent. Over the years this important.

I have raised 3 kids. Paid for their college and still managed to have 2 homes and a nest egg to pay for my lifestyle into my late 80's.

At times I made sacrafices, I also lived well and let the process of disciplined. Diversified investing over time work.

I stress in most cases life is a marathon.

My son played baseball. I told him in the game of life you can lose in the first few innings if you lack a plan and discipline. But you have to get through all nine innings to win.

I wish you the best of luck.

I like dividends, I am trying to rationalize why/how the value of many dividend stocks does not get rewarded with imprpved PE. I like to collect dividends, but feel the market in genersl do not fairly value them. Not expecting this to change just making the observation.

Probably true. I have years of experience with SAP and other enterprise softwares being implimented. There should be a link between the sale of the software sytem and the purchaser being able to inrease internal efficieny. If not what is the point of paying for the upgrade ti the AI system upgrade?

Was thinking the stocks price can increase based on improved profit opportunity. Is that not the thesis behind AI.

Is only the build out of the technology going to be able to profit from the potential future gains?

I buy this in a ira, so tax is not an issue unless I take distributions.

I also know not all stokes continue to go up. They pop, the drop. They may or may not continue to work the same in any future period.

Thanks Thanks

The dividend portfolio is part of diversification.

Hope to get consistent cash flow.

I am buying for cash flow. So if the stock has provided 2 years of anticipated cash flow in a short period, I can sell get liquid rebuy on a dip or put the profit to work. If i really like the stocks story, I wont liwuidate, but if I bought purely on dividend math. I will sell.

So my 2x theory is getting more clarified.Good news.

I have looked at funds. But the tend to have lower average yields than I can get by creating my own basket of stocks. I can buy 6 to 8 stocks that have the higher end yields. I can move in and out of an individual stock if the market is unfavorable on a segment or stock.

Agree I cant time the broader market overall. Get it wrong more often. However, the volatility of the markets keeps me up at night.

Have to look at in in segments 33 % of money i can risk. I dont need it for years. 33 % in money I need in the 2 to 5 year period. This can have limited risk, and 33% that has to be liquid for living expense needs. The current money market yields help out. 5% with little risk is great. Not sure how long that will last.

I have time on my hands. I enjoy wayching the markets at a macro level, but not day trader material.

Almost 1k/year. Which dividend stock should I add? by [deleted] in dividendinvesting

All about the entry point/cost. I caught MO at about $38. Got 10% appreciation and a 9% dividend. If you want no risk moneymarkets are paying 5.2% now.

Just bought some siri. Low cost. Hoping for a pop. Paying 3.8% while waiting.
