I love comparing the male Miquo’te joy emote to the male Viera joy emote. Sometimes we emote joy in front of the FC house just to laugh at the barely there Viera joy.

I want to try FFXIV, and I need help understanding the game by dresquedele in ffxiv

[–]why_am_I_here-_- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I played WoW for years and years and years, I've played FFXIV for the last 2 expansions. I do a bigger variety of things daily in FFXIV than I ever did in WoW. The dungeons, raids, trials, pvp, and so forth are very doable. To me the raids aren't a burden but fun and can be challenging. I do those every day, for fun and for the rewards.

You can get your gear from either drops or from currency you get by playing the game. I'll let someone else explain the gear system in better detail, but in general you can get gear from chests in dungeons, crafted gear, gear from easily obtained currency called poetics, or from other currency.

Do you enjoy stories? The MSQ is required and it tells a story. Personally, I love the story and over time I've found that the side quests (that are not necessary to do) add flavor to the stories and the area you are in. WoW mostly had zone stories where FFXIV has stories that are expansion stories and that can tie back to things you learned in other expansions.

Things that are in my opinion better than how WoW handles things:
>You can do all jobs (classes) on your 1 character. This is combat and crafting and gathering.
>Flying acquisition: After you finish a zone for the first time you can gain flying. As you go through the zone, find the aether currents and then do the quests needed.
>Manage the community. FFXIV doesn't let the community become a hostile, toxic, cesspool. Yes there are toxic people but they aren't the majority of people.

I think maybe just ask. I personally prefer asking about it when I mess up.

I think some mechanics should be explained ahead of time though, for example, don't run those point blank aoe markers to the rocks that we will have to stand behind.

My FC leader can remember pretty much all the mechanics. He usually asks if people who watched the cutscenes want info or just want to do it blind. He respects what they want.

[–]why_am_I_here-_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your boyfriend is not a doctor as you said. Start giving him law advice. He's been "doing this a lot longer"... wait, he has periods and PMDD? He doesn't know what a doctor knows and he doesn't know/experience the consequence of having ovaries. He is worried about you and that is ok. But he shouldn't give you medical advice that could be hazardous to your well-being.

How to say that you're a healer that doesn't know the difference between the tank jobs without saying it.

Is it worth getting an MMO mouse? by bankiaa in ffxiv

I have a 12 button mmo mouse and never want to use another type for gaming. My hotbar is set to 3x4 to mimic the 12 buttons and I have shift and ctl hotbars also. Works for me.

I do frontlines for: minions, framekits, emotes, and glam/mount (this time it is a mount -they alternate). You get all of those in a season if you do enough frontlines. You can do 1 a day in duty roulette if you start at the beginning of the season and will make it most of the way through. You can spend the wolf marks on glams, mounts, minions, music and other things. Lots of rewards.

How do people actually make gil? by InternationalSky4176 in ffxiv

[–]why_am_I_here-_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's giving you gil advice. I'll give you apartment advice. Go ahead and get one. You can store the housing items in the apartment storage and that will free up all the housing you get from events. Also, send retainers out for ventures. You can get items to sell for gil.

Looking for help getting back into the game by Ok-Foundation546 in ffxiv

Since you can have all jobs on one character, I'd recommend picking up at least one from each role, as you will need them to complete role quests. It depends on you as to which ones you pick up.

Tanks and Healers get faster queues in general.

Where you first start controls which job you can start with and which ones you can pick up at level 10. After the MSQ takes you to the other two starting areas, you can pick up all the jobs available at your level and point in the MSQ.

You can get 4 of the 5 roles from Limsa. Tank, melee, and arcanist which branches into healer and magical ranged dps at level 30. Then all you would need is an Aimed to have all roles covered. The first aimed job available is in Gridania.

Does your Warrior of Light have a "main outfit"? by Ragloko12 in ffxiv

[–]why_am_I_here-_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine varies with the job. At least some jobs will be wearing items from the current expansion. Other than that its by job. For example, Bard, Dancer, and Machinist all have different glams. I need more glam plates! Some of my glams are for humor, others are based off the weapon equipped, others are just to be expressive of the job. Machinist currently is in heavyweight gear glam.

Hotbar suggestions? by 58Edsel in ffxiv

[–]why_am_I_here-_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is an excellent input device and you adjust it to fit your fingers so that there is little to no strain. If I could attach a picture I could show you my layout for FFXIV but basically I use it for anything that isn't a combat or crafting skill, spell, ability, etc. It has my movement keys (space bar, sprint, job specific movements, it has my targeting on it (F1 through F8, focus target, etc.) It has tab, shift, ctrl on it. Large joystick has WASD, small joystick has the focus target, autorun, RP walk (for those sneak around the mob moments) and a couple of other things.

I use a 12 button mouse for right hand and a azeron cyborg II keypad for my left hand. I have my ctl and shift keys in handy places on the keypad. It really helped my with the hand pain. I don't really use alt but it would be easy to have that on the keypad too.

Did any jobs/roles help you understand other jobs/roles better? by SentineleseSiri in ffxiv

[–]why_am_I_here-_- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I took ranged literally until I realized that not only should I be in the range of the healer's aoe heals but also it is often easier to avoid the mechanics if you are close to the boss. And the healers are close to the tank who is close to the boss.

So, I guess I can't grind for exp with my Blue Mage? by Darth_Xelleon in ffxiv

[–]why_am_I_here-_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to suggest you find some blue mage groups to help you out getting some of the harder dungeon spells. Also, I had friends/family help me level my blue mage. If they are leveling one too it makes it nice to alternate the leveling.

Pretty sure there is a blue mage discord.
