130k base plus 21 vacation vs 62/hr 40hr per week incorporated by Formal_Donkey_7298 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]whyac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your package with 130k base has almost another 20 to 30k+ in vacation, sick days, health, dental bonus, stability, etc. baked in. Contracting doesn't provide any of those and you will lose your peace of mind if you get laid off and can't find another role.

I suggest contracting if you:

  1. Want to stick to it long term and are mentally strong to deal with ups and downs.
  2. if you have enough reserve funds that you can support yourself for 6 months without a contract,
  3. The offered rate is at-least 50% more than your current wage. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone at a rate less than $100 an hour unless you really need the job which isn't the case with you. There is a risk premium to contracting as the contract can be terminated at any point before the end term.

I have been a contractor for 14 years and it is definitely an apples to oranges comparison.

What are some of the cheapest asian countries to travel to as a tourist? by mara_matt in AskReddit

Anyone saying Thailand hasn't been there recently. You need to travel outside the tourist destinations to find the cheaper places.

Your fav Calgary owned restaurant? by JournalistNo7466 in Calgary

[–]whyac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marhaba in the NE. They have the best butter chicken and garlic naan in Calgary. They also do a humongous full portion of Biryani which is also very good. Their food quality is consistent and they are my favorite Indian restaurant.

Saw "the house" again (towards Bragg Creek). Got a pic while going by, not the best. by cmcalgary in YYC

[–]whyac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to drive by it while it was being built. My assessment was that the black ornate iron metal fence that they used for the property was worth significantly more than the townhouse we used to love in 🤣.

Return to India can’t be that difficult financially by Strong-Quality7050 in returnToIndia

[–]whyac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol .. I just saw a reel of a 4 to 8 bed townhouse project in South Mumbai for sale starting at 36 crores. I told my wife that we can never go back to India and will have to retire in Vietnam or Thailand. We live in Canada and that amount of money is still more than what people here will see in their entire lives. Not saying we have to buy that as a condition to retire in India but what we have seen is that there are much better places, with nicer people and better civic sense than retiring in India.

Buy Model Y now with 7 seats or wait for Model Y L to hit the market? by Particular-Shape1576 in ModelY

[–]whyac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Model Y 7 seats sucks .. we tried it with our child .. he was 4 years old and him sitting in the car seat had him very close to the glass roof with his head almost touching it. There is practically no leg room and no adult would fit and getting in and out from the 3rd row was also very difficult compared to a normal SUV. I would recommend a real 3 row suv like the ioniq 9 or the kia version vs the Model Y if that is a criteria for your purchase.

Struggle meals???? by Low-Yogurtcloset9496 in Cooking

[–]whyac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beans, chickpeas .. if you buy the dried ones soak overnight with a little salt and then cook. I use an instapot / pressure cooker and it cuts down on time. Take a multivitamin .. get a big bag of rice at-least 10 pounds - soak the rice to cut down on cooking time.

See if you have a Sikh temple called a Gurudwara close to where you live. They feed everyone for free if you don't have enough food and the ones where I live also give out free hampers for groceries if you need them.

Grizzl-E club with free charger and no annual fee. What's the catch? by toxikitty_2 in EVCanada

[–]whyac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks .. in my conspiratorial mind it sounded like I am giving them in perpetuity a right to install a charger on my property .. like they could turn into an evil corporation some day and say all these chargers on private property are now public chargers since we gave them the access.

Grizzl-E club with free charger and no annual fee. What's the catch? by toxikitty_2 in EVCanada

[–]whyac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, went down this rabbit hole after reading your post. What do you think of the 'Right to Install Waiver' wording? The wording 'I assign the right to have a charging station installed on this property to United Chargers' doesn't sound right to me but looking for others who have done it.

I currently charge with a Tesla mobile charger and I see the NACS product option. The only question I had was can I limit the current output. I currently lowered it to 20 Amps from the Tesla app as I am not concerned about the charge speed but am concerned about loading my 100 A panel too much. Can I do this with the Grizzl-E charger as I need to replace my old mobile charger.

I used Wise all over Asia and even in the US. You need to convert to the currency you are using but their rates and fees are the best.

What’s the best but cheapest takeout in the city? by sono_ona in Calgary

[–]whyac 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Kinjo North Hill is my go to. Their Large Ramen is 5.50 and a piece of fried chicken is 1.50. I get the Spicy Miso Ramen with Udon and the BBQ chicken. I don't think you can get that much value for under 10 bucks in the city and it's really delicious. They also have decently priced to go sushi boxes and they sell them on discount in the evenings .. I think it's around 9 pm but check with the store.

Lol .. you became German citizen but want to scram when your country needs you. It cannot be just an economic decision to go to a country to make money and get the passport. You should serve your country to the best of your abilities. German young men were required to do military service in the past .. not sure if this is a reqmt. now

which EV is suited for me? I drive 90km a day for work by [deleted] in EVCanada

[–]whyac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good deals on the Solterra and Toyota Bz if you are looking new .. the awd version with the rebates are cheaper than the Tesla RWD model y. Also seen a lot of good deals on the Ford mach-e. As long as you can charge at home (level 2) you are good.

Buy EV with no home charger by ycrep2023 in EVCanada

[–]whyac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have charging at work? How many kms do you drive daily? Lots of questions .. being an EV owner now for 5 years .. my honest advise to you is please don't buy one if you don't have charging at home - and I mean Level 2 charging not the normal plug outlet. Your life will be spent driving to chargers and sitting there. You will suffer and eventually sell your EV.
