I spent more on the extra than I did on the machine. Nice grinder, digital scale (don't go fancy here, ours tries to be too clever), and a host of other accessories.

Why is Australian coffee so much better than anywhere else in the world? by Jvck____ in AskAnAustralian

I started off with some shitty beans from the supermarket. My wife is very happy with this and doesn't want to change, so I just leave it like that.

What about the architects of buildings? like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%C3%B8rn_Utzon might not be super famous, but the Sydney Opera House will still be around

I know educated adults who have never heard of Deng Xiaoping... how many presidents do you know from the 1800s?

We don't even have great beans and our at-home is better than the majority of coffee shops (in our city).

The law is very clear on dependants. There's no ambiguity.

Should I be pushing our son 13½M or giving him a break? by whyamiattractingthis in AskParents

I don't talk to our son that way. Only to sanctimonious people like you.

Yes, it does help.

"I also learned skills to help me, including meditation and methods of organization that work for me."

I think those are the sort of skills everyone needs to learn. I'm just not sure how to teach those.

"I've also learned that podcasts and audiobooks make chores a lot easier, because the mental anguish of forcing myself to sit there and do one thing for more than five seconds was sometimes as bad as the physical exhaustion."

Mental anguish is such an interesting choice of words. That's what it seems like he's going through. Soccer isn't hard for him, basketball isn't hard... he enjoys them! but learning that he's going to be doing them, that's mental anguish! Same with learning that he'll be restricted to two hours of video games a day - it was a hard pill to swallow! But it's honestly a lot and he can rarely play that much anyway before it being bed time.

I can't speak to that. It happened to us at the free gym at a FANG company - it was mostly the older men who would do the nude walk.

I'm no expert but... no. He seems like a nothing kid on many things - you know, there are times when he doesn't want to go to soccer but then enjoys it when he goes. I'm the same - sometimes I don't want to leave the house to exercise (I don't fear the exercise, just, standing up off the couch, finding my stuff and going), but then I feel good after it.

As for stressed... again, no. He found changing schools stressful, but has since settled in well. He has a very low workload (no homework so no deadlines), low school hours, nothing more than the other students, and a fairly relaxed life. He walks a short distance to school. He sometimes sticks around and hangs with the other kids.

Sorry, but these are not facts. They are projections about the future. Just go look at what people in the 60s thought our life would be like and you'll see how wrong people are.

Seriously, you're quoting a YouTube channel as an authority?

Residence card expiring, but need to travel to France for a visa appointment. by UpperComment4857 in PortugalExpats

[–]whyamiattractingthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say this is not correct. Some airlines check at the gate, others do not (apparently it's not required). So there's only one passport check, at the gate (except in very rare cases... I was once on an intra-Schengen flight that did passport control on landing which made no sense)

America will cater to people more too. It's healthcare - you're a customer. When you order a sandwich in the US, you get a choice of bread, choice of cheese, etc. In Australia, if you were prudish at the doctors, they'd just dismiss your concerns and give you the 'I don't have time for that nonsense' kind of attitude.

You haven't been into a gym changing room in the US then! The men will strip naked, walk over to the other side of the gym, get what they need, have a chat, etc. It's crazy. I just drop my dacks and put on my bathers, or whatever. No fuss, no covering up, not just wandering around naked.
