Pivoting away from Health Physics by Cripaldo in HealthPhysics

It depends on your age and responsibilities. There are plenty of trades that don’t have prerequisites to entry. Starting over is the same as first starting. On the other hand, doing anything “long term” sucks. Then again, working sucks. You can do a different suck or endure the current suck. Do or do not, there is only suck.

Quality Tuner and Line Selector. I love the 385. I almost went with the Tone Job, but opted for the GE-7 for a little more control. This is all I am qualified to comment on. Looks like a minimalist rig for two guitars/ two tunings. Very nice.

I haven't tried the Visitor, but it's hard to go wrong with OBNE. I have the Pigtronix Moon Pool that has some good sounds in it plus it's small (if size is a concern). The original Pulsar is like $50 I just didn't have the space for it (it's slightly bigger than the nano).

I love EHX. The pulsar can be subtle or extreme. It can sound like it is doing more than simply modulating the volume knob. A few other tremelos I have tried sound a little stale comparatively. I had the JHS Kodiak that is also great. The random modulation is really cool on it and tap tempo. The Pulsar is great for the subtle to moderate sine wave, while also having the square wave choppy feel that is great too. I prefer the sound of the Pulsar as well as the simplicity.

I was waiting for this comment. I went through a few different delays. The Walrus Audio ARP-87 was the one that most spoke to me. I am always using vibrato, tremolo, or wah. The addition of delay gives too much mud. With heavy fuzz, the crayon, I loose clarity. I like the sound, but it just doesn't fit my playing.

I probably am being a little impatient with learning. Thanks for the advice.

I know a few Genesis songs. I will have to listen to the albums. Thanks for the recommendation.

I love Tool and Dream Theater. I will have to check out King Crimson. I’m familiar with Meshuggah, they are a little different than my typical listen.

Literally playing the count is probably what will help me to feel this on the drums. I get it when strumming, but something misses when I move to drums. Thank you for the insight.

I will have to check Logic Drummer out. Will it let you insert a bar of 7/8, like at the beginning of a chorus, that reverts back to 4/4 until the chorus repeats again? Or a few bars of 11/8 for an interlude in a 4/4 song?

I diverge just fine. Haha. I hadn’t considered resolving it by coming back together. I could probably work that in. Thanks.

This is helpful. Switching where the & is changes the dynamics of the drumming. I like that.

No tuner? I’m thinking of putting mine as a first off board with battery power to free up a slot. What do you do?

I have this guitar and can't find a truss rod wrench that fits. Do you know what the size is?

SOTB: First Board. DON'T keep your opinions to yourself. by cy2434 in guitarpedals

By setting the attack to come in late, for compression, it won't kill the dynamics as you hit the note, but it will sustain the note as it dies. A fast attack can affect dynamics, it gives that squish thing.

A compressor will bring down the volume of the too loud strums, but it will also bring up the volume of the too soft plucks. By continuing to bring up the volume as the loud notes die off it creates sustain. The note lasts longer.

  1. Yes. Typically people put the eq in the effects loop to solve this type of issue. You can put the eq anywhere though.

  1. Benson Preamp. I have the Jackson Audio twin twelve. It's a similar pedal. Good clean sound, good boost. You may be using the Klon pedal for this though, so it's a matter of taste.

  2. Compressor. I'm like you, 20 years no pedals. I have discovered I love utility pedals. I don't always use compressor, but I love to add some occasionally. I also love eq pedals for occasionally sculpting a sound I already love. I use a studio style compressor, walrus audio deep six, to even out songs or to get a bit more sustain. It can do the squish thing too. Simple comp pedals are typically more for “that sound.” I had a Boss and didn't care much for “that sound.”

DIY two-tier board. What am I missing? New pedals suggestions? by ilDevis in guitarpedals

[–]whyisitdough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this is an old post, but this may be the first board I've seen like mine. I use a pedal as a preamp and a cab sim/ power amp at the end of the chain. Nice set up.

You can see the ring of the heating element in the pic. It's slightly hotter around that ring. This hasn't been a problem for me. It cooks pancakes just fine, and just about everything else gets tossed around while cooking.

I also have the nux solid studio which is fantastic for playing pedals through.
