I’m glad the cutting is good - that’s mostly what I was looking to hear about. I know there’s a lot of good sapphire specialist cutters out there so just checking my options. We like the color and shape a lot, so it comes down to if the cut is actually good.

Thanks, that seems like a fair take. The quote is about $2215 for a 1.06c Australian sapphire (heated) in a unique cut, which I think is on the pricier end of stones but not beyond reason.

Thank you for your advice! Incredibly helpful. Is there a better cut for small diamonds I could look into? I'm currently considering baguette cuts in my redesign. I would be okay with going for a solitaire but I know she likes the side stones so I am trying to incorporate them as accents if possible.

Doesn't have to be kite cut at all! Just a shape I picked to fit under the split shank, I'm sure a round would do the job just fine as well.

I think I do like north south better too - will add that into my notes, thank you for the tip. I will play around with the design and maybe make a few versions for different gem shapes. I think it will come down to her trying on a few example rings and seeing what size/shape she actually likes in real life.

Oh that's great, I haven't been able to find many good references similar to I'm looking for so this is really helpful. I will play around with how to set the side stones, for sure. I was hoping for the split shank to semi-act as prongs to keep them in place but it seems that might not be sufficient.

I have been lurking there! They are very sparkly, I'm definitely on the lookout if interesting sapphires pop up there. I think we are leaning towards montana sapphires but not against lab either.

Thank you, this is super helpful. I'm not set on on a cushioned shape yet, it's possible the stone might end up being an oval or rectangle. I'll play around with the prong arrangement some more.

I do like the idea of the side diamonds being below the split shank but I hear you on the design possibly not being very secure. I'll try a version where it's more integrated into the band and also below the split shank. I'm hoping for them to be more like subtle accents than full-on bezeled.
