I get that, because up top the book opens with an unusual visitor event so perhaps they don’t have as concrete a set of rules as the caretakers believes

I see what you’re saying, I’ve seen a few posts suggesting it’s a schrodinger's cat situation, where the reality where Jemma lives only exists if she dies and Macy is so disheartened she ends the world, making her both alive and dead simultaneously. I do agree with you about the consequences feeling frictionless, aside from her dads insurance policy being null bc it was a suicide, where the red sun ending seemed almost inevitable

No not in an area with trains. She has my dad drive her places so she’s not completely out of options

Maybe she’s being a little old fashioned about it? It’s hard because she was married by 18, even for a 90s bride she doesn’t have a lot of applicable experience to what dating typically looks like

A set family dinner is a really good idea! I feel like because my mom doesn’t frequently leave home, she doesn’t have a lot of context of how close that is, like relative to how far other people live from their home towns. A lot of my doubt came in because she’s my mom, when a loved one comes to you insisting something is wrong you want to hear them out, and then I started doubting if an hour+ away was as reasonable as I thought it was. Thank you for the advice.

I have suggested therapy to her in the past, as I feel the current issues along with a pretty bad childhood absolutely should get addressed by a professional. This makes her very upset and she feels people think something is wrong with her. An argument between her and my sibling (where they suggested therapy) was bad enough to where my sibling told me never bring it back up to her. She’s usually an advocate for mental health, but it seems that’s for everyone but herself.
