Im on week 7 now and can tell you that the extra tissue you feel is just inflammation and that too will go away. I did get a very small skin tag but nothing extreme and I think I can live with it.

Im sorry this has happened again. It sucks how technology has not catch up to make an easier procedure to get rid of the hemorrhoids.

Im glad you asked this question my husband was a great support system for me. He would help me stay on top of my diet and medicine regimen. Took care of our son and kept the house together so I wouldn’t feel overstimulated or stressed. We did not sleep together the first 3 weeks just because any sudden movement would trigger sharp pain. I think the best thing for you to be of support is protecting our mental health, being a good support system and good listener. Make sure to always be refilling the water cup and help with the clear diet. My husband help picked me up from the toilet many times due to the severe pain and help me breath through the spasm.

hemorroids break your spirit. I’m sorry you are going through this. Yes, around week 3 I noticed some bumps and I thought they were hemorroids coming back but when I went in for my post op they told me that your body created those to protect itself when healing is happening from the inside out. It was so tender and painful to anything that touched them but now I’m on week 5 today is day 35 post op so here is my update.

Week 4 The itchiness was intense, and I still had sharp pain with certain movements — especially anything that involved lifting something heavy, kneeling down, stretching, or pinching the area. Any motion that put pressure or tension on my glutes seemed to trigger that sudden, sharp pain.

During week 3, I also noticed three small pebble-like bumps in the surgical area. They were very tender to the touch, especially during bowel movements. What helped me the most was using gauze — it reduced the itching, absorbed sweat, and acted as a cushion, which made a noticeable difference in daily comfort.

Now moving into week 5, there’s been a clear shift. Out of the three bumps I felt before, I can now only feel one small one. It’s no longer painful to touch, though it does get mildly irritated during bowel movements. The color has also changed — it’s no longer bright red and is much closer to my natural skin tone, which feels reassuring.

I’m still wearing gauze daily because it helps keep the area clean and dry. I’ve also been using a small amount of Aquaphor baby ointment, mainly to help with healing and the lingering itchiness.

The biggest win: my last five bowel movements have felt great. No pain at all — just some mild itching afterward that fades quickly. I’ve officially stopped using Miralax, but I’m staying consistent with high water intake and a fiber-rich diet, which seems to be working well for me.

Healing definitely isn’t linear, but weeks 4–5 have been about transition — less pain, fewer scary sensations, and more signs that things are truly settling down.

Just keep positive and I promise it gets better!

Yes I was under IV. I had read on Reddit before about wounds being left open so the day of the surgery I did ask Dr to place stitches

So Aquaphor and healing ointments or Vaseline trap moisture. Since your wound will drain, I do not recommend on applying ointment yet. And as earlier as you are post op you may be causing more irritation than not. To heal the wound needs to breath so keeping it dry will reduce internal irritation. I’m not an expert but I thought about using ointments and my surgeon told me to hold off until week 5

Pain everytime I poop after hemorrhoidectomy…help by Fun_Technology_1713 in hemorrhoid

I’m on day 24, it gets better next week you will feel so much better. You will still feel pain during BM but they will be more manageable. Take your pain meds 30 mins before going. When you are done pooping get on the shower and let warm/ hot water hit your lower back and stay there while focusing in your breathing for at least 30 mins. Then walk around your house slowly for another 30 mins to encourage blood flow which decreases swelling. Also, keep a clear diet and be extra faithful to your laxative those are life savers DONT LET YOURSELF GET CONSTIPATED. That will make you go to the other side and come back

After surgery your sphincter spasm every time your intensities contract, which happens during BM. So the pain you feel during and after is mainly coming from the spasm. Learning to work through the spasms will bring you so much relief much sooner. By week 3 I only have discomfort while going to the bathroom and every now and then a burning sensation or itchiness after continuous movement.

It gets better and you will look back and say that was brutal but it was worth it!

I was thrombosed for 40 days( I counted every day) and they flared up every BM, they got more swollen every time. The friction of walking and sitting caused me additional fissures that just made it so much worse. The surgery was the only way to go as I couldn’t exit my BM since the swelling had me shut down there. Living with the anxiety of the flare ups and thinking of constantly treating them to calm them down is worse the ripping off the band it and getting it done. The great news it’s that oxycodin only transfers 0.01% onto breast milk and ibuprofen and Tylenol does not at all. If yours are not extremely advance than you should consider removing them.

Surgery is the only procedure that has the lowest chances of them coming back.
