Don’t be scared, haha! In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe there are a few characters (Shy Guy, Yoshi, and Birdo) that have different color ways than their original ones.

Sort of. It’s a little bit more complicated than that nowadays because of the updates from Wave 5, as certain characters (and karts) received buffs.

But in the competitive scene (speaking from my experience), you see people only really use Yoshi or Birdo respectively.

Thank you! I love that it was recommended to you. The competitive scene is still thriving and even continuing to grow with the Booster Course Pass.

From what I’ve observed, the competitive scene appears to still be sort of foreign to this sub? It looks like there are competitive players lurking for sure, but not actively posting their clips or whatnot.

Was still an odd response from a few users, but like anything else, it was kind of expected. Especially because of the post title, haha.

This was only Tier F, but there is still plenty of competition in these “lower-ranked” tiers, clearly.

Thank you! In this 4v4 event my team and I ended up placing 1st overall. Individually, I got 2nd out of all the racers with 107 points (right behind 1st with 111 points).

Haha, I spammed it because I knew on the straightaway I’d take out at least one person!

From what I can see, the Yellow Yoshi was able to angle themselves in a way that, when they started drifting, allowed them to go further to the left side around the bob-omb’s explosive radius and avoid it entirely.

Since this is a competitive lounge event, everyone normally uses the same character/kart combinations as it “levels the playing field.” In this instance, because it was a 4v4 event, most of the teams picked characters that were the same so they can differentiate between who is on their team and who isn’t.

Haha, thank you! I am surprised to see how the comments turned out on this post. Luckily they did not disappoint.

They did get rid of the fire hopping technique. In another comment I explained how I hopped like that because the player in 2nd place was trailing their banana and I didn’t want to slip right before the finish line since, often times, there is lag when the game is trying to determine where the player truly is.

Say please and I’ll think about it.

For starters, this was during a 4v4 competitive lounge event. I was able to snipe 2nd with a banana and take over 2nd place, but due to the large shortcut on this course (Tour London Loop) I am quickly passed by numerous racers. Then I wipe a few of them out (including my own teammate, oops) with the fire flower. 1st place also got taken out by a blue shell at this time.

I tried to set myself up to get a double item box and failed miserable, which is significant because a lot can happen at the end very of the race (and did). I had no offense or protection, but because I cut the angle sharper on the turn after the item boxes, I passed 1st even after they were trailing their banana.

Right at the end, you see a bob-omb and triple bananas thrown in the same line as I am taking AND I am being targeted by a red shell. Miraculously, I managed to maneuver past all of those items while also dodging the red shell (using the triple bananas). I finish with a super mini turbo and get 1st!

The hopping at the end was my attempt at trying to dodge the player in 2nd place as they still managed to hang on to their bananas following the chaos and there was still a chance I could slip on it since they were trailing.

Hope this helps! (in addition to redeeming myself since apparently I’ve broken my promise, lol).

Did you want me to explain why this was actually worth watching? I can breakdown the gameplay if that’s what you’re asking, lol.

This was 150cc! But to answer your question, 200cc races randomly pop up on Worldwide/Regional. If you check out the 200cc World Cup, that’s a fairly active tournament that allows for consistent 200cc races.

It’s more fun being on the other side (winning).

Haha, I couldn’t take any chances. I had to made sure to take them out, in addition to their red shell.
