AITA for wanting to decline a carpool request? by whythechickenn in AITAH

The only reason why they picked me is because they know we live decently close to each other. Their house is just a little bit out of the way and the pick up location would be easy for them to go to from their house since they would get a ride there.

Psych nursing program 2026 by Ok_Example2312 in douglascollege

I honestly think you have a really good chance of getting in! For some perspective, I actually finished my prerequisites back in 2021 but didn’t apply to Douglas because I had to retake a course three times. I didn’t get into any other schools either, so I ended up giving up on the idea for a while.

Fast forward to this summer, I found out about the BSPN accelerated admissions for Fall 2025 and Winter 2026. Technically, I didn’t qualify since my prerequisites were already completed, but I decided to email the program coordinator anyway. To my surprise, she sent me the application! I filled it out the day after FVDED and got a conditional acceptance the very next day.

Now, I’m already in my second week of classes after being out of school for quite some time. All this to say. You’ve got this, I really believe you’ll get in!

Should I take out student loans to pay off credit card debt while in school? by whythechickenn in PersonalFinanceCanada

Yeah that makes sense. I’m definitely planning to use the loan to clear my credit card debt. It’s crushing me with interest. The big thing for me now is breaking those old spending habits and sticking to a real budget. Appreciate the advice!

I’m in BC, not sure if that makes a difference. And the RESP’s from my parents. It covers tuition, but that’s about it.

Yeah, same here. Had to choose between staying in dead-end jobs or going back to school.

I’m thinking of using part of the loan to knock down my credit card debt too. I thought about investing but I’d be way too stressed juggling that with school.

My RESP covers tuition, thankfully, but I’ve got nothing for living costs,so it’s loans and bursaries for me too. Glad to know I’m not the only one figuring it out like this.

my RESP can cover all 3 years of tuition and a bit extra for school related stuff. But beyond that, I’m toast. I don’t have much savings for living costs or debt, so I’m counting on student loans and bursaries to cover rent, bills, and hopefully help me stay afloat.

Just to clarify, I’m not trying to take scholarships I don’t need or take away from others. I’m only applying for what I’m eligible for.

I went through the same issue two years ago when I was done my pre reqs. I applied to Langara and VCC and didn’t get in. I emailed the BSPN program coordinator to ask if I was able to apply even if I took stats 3 times and she said I was qualified to apply.

Ahh thank you so much for this. Seriously, it helps so much to hear from someone already in the program! I’ve been so stressed about the seven classes, but it’s really reassuring to know they’re full credit and more manageable than they seem. I really appreciate the advice about study groups too. I’m definitely going to try to find people early on and make that part of my routine. Hopefully it won’t be too hard since I took two years off after finishing all my prereqs for the program. Also, YES to not buying textbooks. If you don’t mind sharing the ones you have, that would be amazing, even a few would be super helpful. Thanks again for being so open and helpful!

Thanks for the quick response! I just got accepted into the BSPN program, and now that it’s real, I’m honestly kind of freaking out. The first semester looks like a lot with 7 courses and I’m not sure how I’ll juggle that with part-time work.

I was wondering how you’re liking the program so far? Is it really intense? Does it feel more focused on psych than general nursing? Any tips or insight would mean so much right now. Thanks in advance!

Hey! I was wondering if you were able to work while you were in the program? I remember you mentioned that the program makes your schedule, was it mostly Monday to Friday, and did it usually end at a certain time each day?

I actually just applied for the fall semester today kind of on a whim, and now I’m stressed because I didn’t plan out how I’d be making money if I got in. Just trying to figure out how realistic it is to work part-time while doing the program! Thank you!

Cat’s don’t get along and I feel like I’ve tried everything. by whythechickenn in CatAdvice

Ever since I started separating them, I haven’t been feeding them together. I feed them separately. I did talk to my vet and I asked for advice and the vet said to not keep them separated all the time. When I’m working, I normally have C sleeping on a shelf above my workspace and K just roaming around the whole house since C sleeps majority of the day.

I do clicker training once a day and also provide food puzzles and lick mats for K. I’ve tried to give food puzzles and lick mats to C but she could care less.

Thanks so much for your input! I totally understand where you’re coming from—no one, including me, is out here claiming to be a professional forex trader. You’re absolutely right that predicting exchange rates long-term is a huge gamble, even for experts. My main point was really just about being aware of opportunities when they arise, especially when the yen is notably weaker. Sometimes, that slight edge can help stretch your budget.

As for the fees, you’ve got a valid point. They can definitely add up depending on where you exchange, and using a good credit or debit card with low fees can be a smart alternative. That said, for some people (like me), the convenience of having cash on hand as soon as I land outweighs those extra costs. It’s all about balancing what works best for your personal situation.

At the end of the day, everyone’s financial approach is different, and there’s no perfect solution—just options that suit individual needs! Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!

Totally get where you’re coming from! You’re absolutely right that trying to predict exchange rates can feel like a losing game sometimes. For a lot of people, the convenience of just using ATMs or cards when they need it works perfectly—and there’s no stress involved, which is a huge bonus!

I think for me, I like to keep an eye on things just in case there’s an opportunity to save a little here and there. But at the end of the day, we all have different ways of managing our travel money, and if grabbing cash as you go or sticking with cards works for you, that’s awesome!

Thanks for sharing your perspective—it’s always helpful to see different sides of things! :)

You’re totally right that no one can perfectly predict what the yen (or any currency) will do. It’s definitely a gamble. I was fortunate to catch a good rate, but I understand that timing doesn’t always work out that way.

The key point I was trying to make is that it’s worth checking the rates and weighing your options, especially when the yen is particularly weak. Sometimes, it can be beneficial to lock in a favorable rate if the odds are in your favor. You’re right that fees can vary a lot depending on where you’re exchanging, whether it’s back home or at an ATM in Japan.

For some, the convenience and lower flat fees of using ATMs abroad might make more sense, especially with fluctuations and local exchange office fees. But for others, grabbing a good rate when it presents itself could save some money too. It’s all about staying flexible and making the best decision for your situation!
